True story. But I'm talking Atlantic Herring. Legal and no limit to them. Had rangers come down several times while we had buckets half filled with them. Only checked for licenses. Told us about the herring you mentioned which come in in the early spring. Said not to take those. I was bringing live atlantic herring up the housy for stripers. Got keepers new yrs eve and new yrs day on them. Was hoping to try again before the herring pull out which i'm guessing may have already happened.

Hi CD!

Ah-Ha! Atlantic Herring!

Well that's a fish of a different color Exclamation Very Happy

BUT! -> Your catching them for bait Question

Me -> I'd have my smoker going to make Scottish style -> "Smoked Kippers".
(Why waste them strictly as bait Exclamation )

Smoked Kippers + Scrambled eggs -> True New England dish -> The BEST Exclamation
DELICIOUS Exclamation Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Hmmmm? Thanks for reminding me -> Have to get the smoker going again for smoked Trout - Salmon - Ribs - a Brisket - and Cornish Hens ....-> YUM Exclamation
Soooooo! worth the time and effort! Very Happy
