Went out of point judith again yesterday. Started getting into fish immediately but had to pick through 7 shorts before getting my first keeper. Most were around 18.5" Stayed w/ my new routine of tandem 2 hook rig w/ a fishfinder, swivel and 4oz weight. Top hook had a white/mylar bucktail teaser and was topped w/ squid and mackarel. Bottom hook had a pink/mylar teaser and squid mummichog combo. The mackarel was really producing early but unfortunately a bunch of shorts. Managed 2 more keepers to 4lbs. before the tide slacked, boat slowed down and so did the fishing for a little bit. Once it turned, we started drifting again and picking up fish. I switched over to whole squid on a Boa 3/0 4/0 rig w/ 25# leader and nailed 3 more keepers. I was worried about snapping another leader but the last one that snapped on the boa rig was 20# leader. I need to figure out how to tie my own slider rigs w/ stronger leader. Once I switched to whole squid, every fish i picked up was a keeper. Ended up with 6 keepers, 13 shorts and a skate which came up on a double header w/a short. My buddy's each had a few shorts and one of them had 1 keeper. There weren't any big fish taken today. My biggest was only 22" and 4lbs Still wound up w/ about 8lbs of filets so not bad at all.
