jonnyfly00 (aka Jon aka Shelly) and I decided to fish the upper pond at Nod Brook again, today. Jon said he wanted to make sure that the 10 fish he caught there a couple of days ago weren't just dumb luck. We arrived just after 10:00 am and left just after 4:30 pm. It was cold, but there was much less wind this time, so we both felt a lot warmer. We headed straight for the debris pile in the middle of the pond toward the south end. I bored a hole with my new eight inch StrikeMaster Lazer auger (18 to 20 turns to get through seven inches of black ice), threw in the same ice colored Swedish Pimple that I used the last time but baited with a small mealworm this time, and within five seconds set the hook and landed a solid 13 (just shy of 14) inch largemouth bass:
The weather kept changing all day. We had scattered clouds when we arrived and even full sun for a while:
But when clouds rolled in and snow began falling, I set the hook on and landed a 22 inch chain pickerel:
I also caught a few sunnies and a couple more short largemouth bass. Jon caught the cycle a couple of days ago (i.e., yellow perch, sunnies, largemouth bass and a golden shiner). Today, he did one better. He got a golden shiner, a short largemouth bass, five sunnies, a yellow perch and a rock bass. Here are some photos of Jon with a few of his catches:
It wasn't until 3:00 pm or so that another ice fisherman showed up. And it was Mike1 (aka Mike, of course):
A couple of days ago, Jon outfished me 10 to four. I got outfished again, today, but this time only nine to seven. Maybe we know what we're doing, after all. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter!

Hi Guys!
Glad you had another good day on Nod!
Now you have to try other waters and try your skills on them and see if they produce
Best regards,
SeaDog1
PS: Phil -> It's going to get colder -> Your going to need a Bomber hat like Jon's

Stephen - I'd rather have a bear hat like Kira's.
Watch out, Patriots fans! Here come the Bears! _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Hey Phil!
According to history most Patriots killed British red coats and Bears
Go PATS

Let's not forget that the Pats and Bears already played this season.
Pats 36 - Bears 7
I don't think the 1985 season's superbowl has as much influence on a game between these two teams as this year's record does. Unless Mike Singletary decides to throw some pads on and take out his frustrations after being fired from the 49ers. Let's also not forget they will both have to beat some good teams to even get to the superbowl. Stop counting your fish until you actually get them in the boat (or on top of the ice) |

I'm glad to hear that you got an auger and it works good. I'm sure nothing is going to keep you off the ice, now. Let me know when you want to try for some pike. This weekend? _________________ Go big or go home! |

Hey, Mike, it was nice meeting you, too. I learned something, today. I need to try different lures. Jon, Kira and I jigged Hali-type lures baited with maggots, mealworms and waxworms today and caught only tiny largemouth bass and sunnies. When we were leaving the ice, we saw a guy pulling yellow perch out of a hole, sometimes two at a time. I think that he was using round jigs, like Genz Fat Boys. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |
