Here in central ct there are a few ponds that are freezing up,,, talked to the bait shop today and they said a few shallower ponds were frozen enough to get onto. I'm going to check a few tomorrow and maybe do a little fishing if there thick enough?

Went out in central ct. today and found a few smaller shallow ponds both with 3 1/2 to 4 inches. stopped at the wethersfield cove on the way home, it was frozen over all the way with about and inch to 1 1/2 around the edges, i walked out about 10 - 15 feet and it was about the same everywhere, NOT SAFE YET, but it wont be long now!!!

Hi Mike!

Well there are always the risk takers.
Colebrook Res. and Hogback Res. can be real "iffy" because of moving water under the ice.
Plus the Corp of Engineers and MDC do let water out on a regular basis.

2 years ago I got out on Hogback and drilled thru 18-20 inches of ice and there was NO Water under it -> Water was about 2 ft. below the ice.
To say I back tracked very very slowly is an understatment Shocked Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation
I was shaking and sweating the whole time till I hit land Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

Have been back there since, But I "DO" drill holes just a couple of feet off the shore to make sure there's water under the ice to hold it up Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

12/21/10 Winchester had 7" in the black ice areas out to about 6 ft of water. I didn't venture any further as the wind gusts out in the open nearly took me off my feet a few times.
