Hi All!

Well, I'm sure everyone is happy that we're past that rain and warm spell and that cold temps have returned.

BUT Exclamation -> We now have a DANGEROUS SITUATION on our hands Exclamation Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

SNOW OVER THIN ICE Exclamation Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Snow over what ice may have survived is an insulating factor and will SUBSTANTIALLY SLOW DOWN the reformation of ice Exclamation
Snow with air in it acts as a blanket and reduces the loss of heat from water so it can freeze thicker.

Now this is "Meteorlogical FACT" not hear say or wives tales Exclamation

Even with temps in the 10's - ice "WILL NOT" form as quickly as if the surface of the particular water was clear with no snow on top!

The snow will ALSO HIDE the weak spots Exclamation Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad
The snow will also over time form into a layer of WHITE ICE Evil or Very Mad -> Which is very very WEAK Exclamation

So -> AS A FRIENDLY AND SERIOUS WARNING Exclamation -> Those of you contemplating to try and get out on ANY waters to do some ice fishing soon -> would be VERY WISE to spud your way out every 4- 6 ft. on ANY waters that have snow cover.
YES! I'm advising every 4-6 ft. this time for SAFETY SAKE Exclamation

As anxious as we all are to start engaging in our favorite winter sport -> NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO THROW CAUTION TO THE WIND AND BE FOOLISH or STUPID Exclamation

A FISH IS NOT WORTH THE RISK OF LOSING YOUR LIFE OVER Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

Be SMART Exclamation - Be SAFE Exclamation - Have FUN Exclamation

Best regards,

Easy pP1 Easy!

The cold temps only came back Tuesday night, it's only Wed. Exclamation

Got to give it a few days (hopefully without wind) to get back to where we were before all the rain, high temps, and snow.

As for Winchester -> there was only 3 1/2 inches of ice before the rain and higher temps. and we did get 6 - 8 inches of snow, which is going to slow down the formation of new ice.

Maybe late tomorrow or Friday I'll make my rounds to see what the waters look like!

Check this video out if you have time. It's lenghty, but worth the information you get out of it.

didnt realize that much snow came down up there in the hills, was hoping to get out this weekend but that might not be realistic if theres that much snow on the ice, as for going through the ice, I've tried that ONCE! I dont have plans on doing it again, I make sure i'm shallow, waist deep at the most where i start checking and walking out, that way if you find out the ice isnt thick the hard way it's easy to get out... DONT FORGOT THAT SNOW ADDS WEIGHT ON TOP OF THE ICE TOO!!!
