Hi All!
Well while perusing thru 3 (+ this one) other ice fishing forums this evening I read where some guys (around the country) risked going out on 2 inches of ice.
Also of 5 guys that broke thru up to their knees or waist. (Lucky no one lost their life - Just got wet!)
I don't care how you cut it or try to justfy it -> Getting out on any ice that isn't better then 3 1/2 inches is plain CRAZY
No fish is worth losing one's life over
Ice fishing should be SAFE and FUN -> Not a competition for bragging rights of who could get out first (on thinnest ice) or catch the first fish of the season
THAT'S JUST PLAIN --- STUPID
And as the comedian "Ron White" says -> "YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID"
Anyone getting out on ice less then 3 1/2 inches is just BRAGGING and is setting a VERY BAD EXAMPLE for all fisherman and especially to the youngsters that are entering into this wonderful sport.
As ice fishing sportsman it is our duty to promote ICE SAFETY -> First and fore most -> then all the where, when, and hows
Be SMART -> Be SAFE -> Have FUN
Best regards,
SeaDog1

Hi Drew!
LOL - LOL
I'd forgotten all about the Darwin Awards.
Thanks for reminding me
For those you that don't know what a Darwin Award is
It's an honor given to those who improve the species........By accidently removing themselves from it

If i was to ever ice fish i would be easily recognizable. Id be wearing one of those skin tight jet ski suits a pfd, Yukon Cornelius jacket and a rope from my truck to my waist.
If god wanted us to go out on frozen water I think he would have frozen the Red Sea for Moses rather than part it and make everyone schlep through the muck in sandles.
I fell through skating on a pond as a kid and it left a mental mark. |

Hey at one of my sites not more than an hour ago a guy said he is sending me a bill for his monitor. Accused me of making him spit Sam Adams all over his monitor.
I think this site is to civil to share my reply back to him
Anyhow I didnt mean to make light of the seriousness of your words.

seadog your 100 % percent right about going out on 3 1/2" of ice or more ,
me and a friend went out on 2 1/2" of ice one time luckly we didn't go in but i tell you that was pretty scary and i'll NEVER!! do that again we could actually watch the ice heving from the pressure of us walking back to land. _________________ SFC TAVALOZZI UNITED STATES ARMY NATIONAL GUARD.
