Hi All!
Well I went out this afternoon (2:30 to 5:00 PM) to check the ice thickness at some of the lakes and ponds here in the NW corner.
All waters where observed close at hand and at long range with my binoculars.
Also all waters where spuded 2 to 3 times out to a distance of 8-10 ft. from shore, except West Hill Pond.
West Hill Pond - Only the boat basin has any ice the rest of the pond is open water.
Highland Lake - Ice covered with 3 inches of black ice at the boat ramp.
Stllwater Pond - Ice covered with small strip of open water near dam - 1 1/2 to 2 inches of black ice at boat ramp.
Burr Pond - Ice covered with 3 to 3 1/2 inches of black ice at the beach area.
Park Pond - Ice covered with 3 1/2 inches of black ice at the boat ramp.
Winchester Lake - ice covered even at a distance with 3 1/2 iches of black ice at the boat ramp..
Talked to 3 young fellows (big guys) just coming off the ice at boat ramp at last light - Had observed them earlier way at the northern end of the lake thru my binoculars.
Said they had a good day and caught a few Pike -> One 36" and another at 30".
Woodcreek Pond - Got there just at last light - Ice covered with 3 1/2 inches of black ice.
NOTE: Observed a Large dark hole 20 ft. off the boat ramp with a large chunk of ice sticking up out of it.
I'm making an assumtion here, but it definitly wasn't a drilled hole! -> Looked more like someone broke thru the ice as it was quite large!
Took pictures of all my observations with my new cell phone -> Have to learn how to download the pics -> Will post as soon as I get it figured out.
Again -> As we fishermen say "Making Ice" -> Another 2 days of good cold Wx and ice should be at or over a reliable 4 inches!
Yes! We will get some rain and warm temps on Sunday, but we will get more cold Wx after that.
Ice should be reliable by Mid-week!
Still best to spud your way out on the ice and have all your safety gear on you.
Black ice was very slippery today so wear your ice cleats when you go out.
Best regards,

Right now it's 12:40 PM and pouring heavy rain and temp @ 40 degrees (still going up) here in the NW corner, and will continue thru tonight and Monday
Soooooo! What ice we had build over the last few days is going to be shot
Was going to post my recent ice pics but they're worthless now!
Cold Wx won't come back till Tuesday night
Looks like we're going to start from scratch
We're still subject to the whims of Mother Nature

Sea Dog, i went out fishing on wood creek pond on saturday morning. i brought my clam 6800 portable ice house and shoveld out a spot for it. after we leave the spot where it was it leaves a large dark spot fromm the heat we generate. there was a pile of snow next to the spot. Is that possibly what you saw? _________________ I'd Rather be fishin' :ifishing |

Hi Austin!
Could have been!
Doesn't make any difference now with all the rain and warm temp.
Ice is shot till we get back to freezing temps.
Best regards,
