I fished the upper (i.e., south) pond at Nod Brook WMA in El Habañero from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. I wanted to see how well the console I just made for El Habañero works. The air temperature was 60 degrees, but it fell to 53 degrees by the time that I left. There was a steady five mile per hour north breeze that died down to almost nothing during the two hours I was on the water. The skies were clear and the sun shined until it started to set.
I ended up catching three fish. I was throwing a Strike King Redeye Special 3/16 ounce chartreuse spinnerbait parallel to the east shore on the south end of the pond when I caught a 12 inch largemouth bass:
In the same northeast corner of the pond, I caught a 13 inch fallfish on a wacky rigged five inch green pumpkin/red flake Senko:
It picked up the Senko off of the bottom. I had a few nibbles on a couple of casts before I finally hooked it and was expecting a yellow perch. The last fish I caught was another 12 inch largemouth bass on the wacky Senko, near the beaver lodge on the north end of the east shore:
The console I made for El Habañero works great, although I definitely have to add a bungee to keep it from working its way off of the coaming. The polyethylene cutting board out of which it's made is really slippery, and there's not enough friction between it and the coaming for it to stay put on its own. I'll add a bungee tonight and test it out in the morning tomorrow. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter!

Cots6 - I caught a 22 inch, four pound, 10 ounce largemouth bass with a 1/2 ounce red spinnerbait in the lower pond at Nod Brook a week ago and I know that there are even larger bass in there. You gotta check it out, although the weekends tend to be booked by the dog trial people. If you'd like to meet out there during the week, you'd be welcome to use one of my boats. Just let me know when. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Thursday's weather forecast is for sunny skies, a high temperature of 53 degrees and wind out of the west-northwest at up to 13 miles per hour. A little blustery, perhaps, but still manageable. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Cots6 - I'll be there. I love that place. Well, less so when there are dog people around who are baby talking to their dogs extremely loudly and continuously. "Come eeer, Fluffy! Come heeeere! Gooood dog! Goood boy! Who's a gooood boy! Fluffyyyy! You're a goood boy!" _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |
