We were going to hit either Keeney cove or White Oaks but someone flushed the toilet in Holyoke so the river is way up. We didn't have a backup plan so the truck found its way to Lake X. We got there to be greeted by no other boats and no wind:
Of course that changed by 10am and we still didn't have a fish by that time so on to the bluebird skies with 10mph wind so here comes the spinner bait. I ended up with 3 bass on the spinnerbait and my dad got one near the dam on a brush hog. They were all about this size:
The fish seemed really scattered, we could never really key in on any type of specific structure or cover. I have a feeling that if we knew the lake a bit better we could have put a few more fish in the boat.
And the lake denied us of any pickerel, which is odd since the place is named... _________________ Catch and release only.

That first photo gave it away for me. Did you make it into the back coves? The pickerel hang out right near the points of those cove entrances. Those are consistently late-feeding bass, from my "research." I'm fairly convinced that quantity only happens at night.
Never more than a couple boats on the water at any given time, usually just kayakers. Legal fish/2-3 lbers are pretty standard for me there as well. Still, 3 of those is nothing to complain about. Nicely done. _________________ Kira

We did make it into the back coves, but we didn't get anything back there. And I wish there were only 2 other boats on the water. There were 4 other fishing boats and one idiot doing 30mph(completely illegal) and drinking a beer at the same time(also illegal). Have you heard of any fish of size(5+lbs) from the lake? _________________ Catch and release only.

Yes, a few weeks ago there was one in the weekly DEP report, but not much aside from that. _________________ Kira

last year I caught a 5lb LMB that should have been over 7 it was long and had a giant head but was so skinny it weighed 4.98. I think it was old and dying. other than that I've caught a ton of shorts and several 1-2 pounders. |

He gives away the location as a brain teaser. Read carefully. I read it three times before I caught the hint.
Good post. |
