I should have taken a photo when I was back there yesterday. As you pass through the culvert, it opens up into a huge area. I wasn't expecting that at all.

lol...it does kind of make you think of the Louisiana bayou back there. If it was a warmer climate up here there would definitely be some big gators swimming in there. Very Happy

Screw the scary at night, it's scary during the daytime there with some of the characters I've seen hanging out there. Always makes me wonder if I'll come back to my car with broken windows or whatnot. Mad

I met an older guy with a white beard who was sitting on a lawn chair by the garbage barrel next to the boat launch ramp down to the lower cove. He said that he's a local, and told me that there are big northern pike and largemouth bass in the middle and upper ponds. He appeared to be a local celebrity. Many of the people who drove by stopped to say "Hi!" to him. I think he just hangs out and keeps an eye on things during the day.

Its safe during the day, it gets locked up at night. Theres piles of 2-4lb bass back there, flipping and pitching the miles of matted grass works and so does pitching to all the shallow tree trunks when the water floods, its real cool looking back there. Used to go 150ft back into the woods with the old g3, fun times.

I remember going to Keeney last year in early september. We met some locals at the launch area, they seemed very friendly. They had went to white oaks in their canoes, and brought back a bunch of crappie, including the biggest crappie I have ever seen, it was at least 17" long and probably close to 2.5lbs. We didn't have that kind of luck in Keeney unfortunately, we only got the skunk Sad . But the place looks like it is really out of the way, which means it could hold alot of fish. Very Happy

Ditto. The water isn't what's scary - it's launching/returning to your vehicle that I have the problem with.

Keeney always seems like it is on fire or it is shutoff. Tide and water level really impact the fishing conditions there. When the river is flooded, keeney cove can be very productive.
