I'm starting to feel a little bit better, so I decided to fish Scoville Reservoir from my Hobie today. I was on the water from 11:00 am to 4:30 pm. The air was cool and the sky was partly sunny. The water temperature was around 60 degrees. The wind was out of the north and much stronger than the seven to 10 miles per hour that I was expecting. At times, I'm sure that it was blowing steadily at close to 20 miles per hour. Here's a map that shows where I pedaled:

I put in at the boat launch ramp (orange circle on map) and, because of the north wind, I headed straight to the northwest corner of the reservoir. I'm pretty sure that I followed the old river channel; the depth was about 16 to 19 feet. I trolled a little white crankbait and a big black spinnerbait with double willow blades, but didn't get any hits. In fact, my finder marked only one fish during the troll at 14-1/2 feet deep in 18 feet of water. There are two coves in the northwest corner. The easterly cove is shallow and about three feet deep, with pads near the shore. I threw the spinnerbait, the crankbait, a big black buzzbait and a wacky-rigged five inch pumpkin/red flake Senko, but didn't get any hits. In fact, I didn't even see any fish in the clear water. I headed over to the westerly cove, which is slightly deeper at about five feet and ends at a double culvert underneath Munson Road. Just inside the culvert (green circle on map), I got my first bite on the wacky Senko and landed a 14 inch largemouth bass:

I continued to pitch the Senko at the shore and the spinnerbait wherever there weren't too many weeds or leaves, but didn't get any hits. At this point, the battery on my finder died and I realized how much I've already gotten used to checking it for the depth. It was like losing one of my senses. It's a Humminbird 385ci. I highly recommend that you get one for your canoe or kayak.

Anyway, I headed across the reservoir to work my way east along the north shore. Just past the beach next to the camp (green circle on map), I got a hit on the wacky Senko and landed a 15 inch, one pound, eight ounce largemouth bass:

I continued east along the north shore and got no more hits until I reached the biggest section of the reservoir. I was throwing the spinnerbait and felt a small hit, and saw a yellow perch follow it all the way to the boat. So I switched to the crankbait and pulled up several perch:

The perch would swarm the lure and hit it as it got close to the boat. If you want to catch a mess of yellow perch, I highly recommend the western shore of the biggest section of the reservoir (yellow oval on map). I continued around the north shore until about 4:00 pm, then headed to the shallow area on the south shore that TurtleKiss says is "the bowfin area" of the reservoir. I threw the spinnerbait and the crankbait over it for a few minutes, but didn't get any hits, so I decided to head in and get off the water.

All in all, it was a beautiful day. If the wind had stayed under 10 miles per hour, it would have been much better, but I can't really complain. I'm definitely in pedaling shape now. I can maintain a leisurely three and a half mile per hour pace with no problems at all. I have a few more photos in my SLR camera that I'll upload later. The Fall color on the leaves is beautiful.

Hey, Dawg! Scoville is nice, but I like ponds where the bottom drops off quickly from the shoreline and the bottom there drops pretty gently. There are spots with submerged boulders just underneath the surface. I teeter-tottered on a couple of them.

Have you taken a look at the Farmington River in Tariffville or Simsbury lately? Has it settled down, yet?

Daylight Savings Time, perhaps? When we "Fall Back" to Eastern Standard Time, we'll be at GMT - 5 hours, right?

Wherever. Keeney Cove sounds good to me, too. Or the Connecticut River from Linear Park (aka the Vibert Road Boat Launch).

The causeway and the weedbed of green healthy weeds where you hit number 2 have been good for a half a dozen or more fish the last few trips there.
