Hi All!
OK! I've posted some ice fishing sites that you may find interesting, and get some ideas from.
NOW! It would be nice to see some posts and pictures on what ice fishing gear you use or have made!
Jigs, spoons, sleds, shelters, tip-ups, tip-downs, jigging poles, etc., etc, etc.
The ice fishing season will be upon us before you know it and it's best to get prepared early!
Best regards,

I have only been ice fishing once in my life and it was with my kids and my brother's family at his local rod & gun club event up in MA last year. I had a blast and so did everyone else. Currently I only own 1 tip up and 1 rod which were both door prizes from the event last year. Hopefully I will get out and use them at some point this year. I just need to make friends with someone who has a power auger |

Hi DD!
Why? a power auger?
You can get an inexpensive hand auger and/or also get an adapter for a portable 18-19 volt power drill.
(That's what I have and I can get 8-10 holes drilled off 1 battery -> I always carry a spare as well as my ice chisel).

Cause I'm a newbie to ice fishing and don't know what the hell I'm talking about
I looked into the hand augers and they are relatively inexpensive and not to bad at cutting holes either. Besides it might be a good way to keep my rowing muscles in shape during the winter. We shall see. It would be nice to pull a pike through the ice this year. |

Hi DD!
That's OK! We all where newbies at some time!
My suggestions when 1st starting out is to get some good insulated boots and wool or thermal socks. (Heat packs also)
Can't enjoy ice fishing with cold feet.
As for clothes -> WOOL -> "NO Cotton EVER "
Wool will keep you warm even if wet -> Cotton when wet will NOT + it can freeze to your body.
Next would be SAFETY GEAR -> Ice Spikes, Rope, and a Whistle!
Next would be to keep the amount of fishing gear you take out on the ice to a minimum. (I only set out 3-4 tip ups and a couple of jigging poles + bait and a small tackle bag with jigs, spoons, extra hooks, etc.)
I'll be happy to help you anyway I can!
Best regards,

Thanks for the tips Seadog. I have a nice pair of sorels so I at least have the warm feet part covered. I'm sure I'll have to bust out some of the cold weather under armor too when and if I venture out. |

Hi All!
This is a repeat post -> Cabela's is OK! -> BUT Gander Mountain has a much more extensive selection of ice fishing gear (Lot of stuff the Mid-west guys use) and at much more reasonable prices! (Been to both and compared !).
Went to the GM in Kingston, NY 2 weeks ago and spent $138.00 on mostly new tackle (Jigs, spoons, Glow hooks, etc., etc.)!
Probably got enough stuff to last me for 2 seasons of hard water
I'm a happy man
