Decided to hit Winchester last night despite the forecast being cloudy, windy & rainy. Met my buddy there around 9pm...cannot believe I found another moron who likes to challenge death on the water. He had a canoe with no anchor or motor. The rain was steady but mostly light, the wind from the north was creating nice big frothy caps on the surface, the "full" moon was MISSING...geez it was dark out there. The only light source was a house to the north. There was a thick fog on the surface of the water, so I was unaware I was cruising through stumps just past the western cove. As soon as the fog lifted I saw them all around me and had to anchor. I only got about 60% of the way across the lake. My partner showed up eventually...we tethered our boats together and looped my anchor line around a stump. We fished, we caught nothing. The wind was crazy. Checked out the western cove on the way back - there's some nice pads there but the wind wanted us dead so we headed back to the launch around 2 a.m. Here's what you missed:
Next, we visited West Hill Pond since it was there. No boats...fished the launch area until about 5 a.m. It was pretty calm but uneventful aside from a few baitfish nibbles on my superfluke. The marina had plenty of lighting, but I couldn't really see anything other than that area. It seemed nice though.
After that, we went wading/fishery ruining in the Farmington river. I tried for bass; it wasn't a bassy-looking area though. Partner caught an average-sized rainbow. I have no idea what town we were in...if you feel like driving on this access road for one trout, then be my guest. I took this video on the drive back because I knew you'd all love to see a video of my truck getting stuck in the mud. I can't even seem to do that right!

Sounds like you tried to do a lot of fishing. How did you even find that Farmington River access road?
Followed my buddy's truck...I had no idea where he was going. That road is pretty steep...my truck slid down the hill a few times on the way down there so I was surprised my RWD handled so well on the trip back up. _________________ Kira

I love the audio on your Winchester Lake video. I can't believe that you even launched into that wind. Winchester would scare me at night even if it were calm with a full moon. Yikes!
I got a little more sleep last night so, no, I didn't attempt to fish during last night's hurricane. I did, however, fish in the almost perfect overcast weather we had this afternoon. Report to follow. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter!

I fished Cedar this morning in the hurricane winds from 6 am till 1 pm. Could not do anything except froggin caught a 4.12 on the frog
missed one a little bigger both around 9:45 am then I caught a 3 pounder on the frog and missed another 3 pounder flippin around 12 pm. At one point I was drifting faster with the wind than I was with my 55 thrust minn kota in 5th gear I can't wait for the fall bite. Surprised you didn't get bit at West Hill though in the morning there. Winchester on the other hand is mostly a miss but sometimes at night you can get them. I've noticed that during a full moon night fishing SUCKS I've went to 2 lakes that I fish a lot during the night and with a full moon and no clouds your better of sleeping in bed.

Phil - thought I was drifting by a stump...I was on the receiving end of a beaver slap about 8 feet away. I'd love to see how the rest of you would have reacted to it. I don't seem to get startled much when I'm on the water. Back on land I was anxious fishing from the point with the rocks, probably because slipping/falling on the rocks would have hurt/killed me quite a bit. Plus I'm sure I walked through some spiderwebs to get there.
Very nice fish, Pete! I wanted to throw the frog, but the wind was pushing my boat into the pads hard and my motor was struggling in 5th gear too. Couldn't see what direction the wind took took my frog, and I couldn't hear if it landed in pads or water. Does Cedar have a lot of pads? I was there early in the season (from land, next to the little cemetery) and it looked Lower Boltonish. _________________ Kira

Good amount of pads yes Cedar lake in Chester. As for the bass its about time I caught one over 3 pounds this summer besides June I have caught 27 bass that have weighed either between 2 pounds 13 oz or 3 pounds 3 ounces 27 OF THEM! Kira the beaver knows my tin can too well he doesn't splash no more at night when I'm out there lol
