I took a quick ride over to Spring Pond since I had a little time to kill around lunch from 12:00pm to 1:30pm. It was sunny and the water was calm and the level was down a couple of feet so some of the usual spots where there is cover were out of the water. I got two bites from LMB off of a big rock just below the surface on the East shore in about 3-4ft of water. The first one I pitched a wacky 5" purple senko over to the backside of the rock and immediately I thought I had snagged the rock. Then the fish moved and I knew it was a big one. It swam toward the boat and then turned and dove under and bent my rod in half and towed my boat around a little. I got straightened out and the guy made a run and ripped off some drag. Once I got him back over to the side of the yak and was just about to yank him on board he threw the damn hook and swam away. I got a good look at him since it was only a couple feet away and I would guess it was at least in the 4lb to 4.5lb range, maybe more. It would have been a new PB if I could have landed it. The way it was towing my boat I though I had a good hookset in the damn thing. I was pissed but what could I do. I threw back at the rock and immediately hooked up with a baby 9" or 10" LMB but I was too pissed to measure it. I pitched a few more times at the rock but that was a done deal. That one will haunt me for a while...most likely until I catch a bigger one Anyway that's my rant, I mean report for the day. |

It happens dirty dog, it happens!
That big 1 will come.
I have been fishing for bass for over 20 years and still haven't broken the 6lb mark in CT. My PB is a 5-14 largemouth from Mansfield Hollow, from about 10 years ago. I have caught a bunch of 4 and 5+lbers since then, but am still waiting for my 6+. If I fished at night, or fun fished more, I'm sure I would have broken the 6lb mark by now, but conditions are much tougher during tournaments, and that's pretty much all I do these days. _________________ Life's Short - Fish Hard - Take a Kid Fishing |

Too bad Dawg, would have made a nice pic. Keep at it, fish enough times and the big ones will come.

Hey, were you talking about the rock that's directly across from the S island and about six feet from the E shore? I pitched a Senko at it a few times today and got nothing. In fact, I got absolutely nothing on the entire E shore. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Wow, I gotta hook up with these guys. They even have secret codes for all the hot-spots (S Island & E Shore)! Welcome back Phil!

No way, Dawg! SkeeterJim needs the decoder ring, not the book! _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

If he meets up with us in the yak he gets the decoder ring. If he takes us out on the skeeter he gets the book |
