So Daddy Picle took my wife and I out to West Hill Wed. We got on the lake around 5:50 am. Water temp was in the mid 70's I think sorry I forget what it was for sure. The water was clear as hell you could see down to 30 or 40 feet only us and one other boat that was out trolling for trout. We started up the west bank by the beach. We all were hooking into fish right away but lost them as fast as we hooked into them all very small dinks So we keep working up the shore hitting the banks I was using a Senko Mardi Gras color worm for a long time while my wife and Pickle tried top water. I even hooked up for a while just to lose the fish in the air no great loss just another dink but man I was getting mad were is some toads.

Pickle switched to drop shot and it worked well for him he was hooking up he had a 2 or 3 inch minnow black and white on finally we got fish in the boat so the skunk is gone. All of a sudden all hell breaks loose in the woods around 730am. It was the Boy Scout Camp playing Reveille over the loud speakers all over camp. They played it twice and then they went into the ESPN jock jams. Man I would be pissed if I lived on that lake and had to listen to that every morning in the summer. So we laughed and keep on trucking around the lake fishing. Then again all hell breaks loose again at the camp. We were like what the hell it was funny it sounded like the calvary was heading at us cause they were playing charge on the bugle over the P.A. again must have been chow time for breakfast. Man we laughed so hard we thought we were in Gettysburg in the civil war.

Now back to fishing we went again. I think pickle boated about 3 dink on the west side all the fish were caught over there in about 10 ft or less of water. My wife got one off the the east point of the island on a white and purple crankbait great her skunk is gone too only after she had used all her lures and all of mine trying. It is funny watching her she will wash all her lures off everytime till she hooks up and after 3 cast and no fish again she keeps changing lures. So by now I am just mad as helllll!!!!! It got the best of me for a good amount of time. So we made our way out to the rock pile in the middle of the lake fished there and with the wind kicking our azz I got Pickle to head to the east side cause we had it, fishing out in the middle.

We worked the bank for a while with no hook ups. I was getting ever more mad at this point. I was ready to just give up and sink all my rods and tackle to the bottom of the lake in 30ft of water. I started to think and calm down I asked Pickle if I could use a drop shot weight cause I did not bring some with me. I love to finesse fish with slider heads and I had some awesome little purple and chartreuse worm with garlic and salt in them I liked so I pulled that out and used that.

We were fishing along for about 10 mins in about 25 feet of water casting into about 15ft and finally I hooked up to a Larry. The fish would not come up and when it started to it seen the boat and took off under it almost taking my rod with it. I yelled to pickle to grab the net cause I thought this fish was a slob of a toad he nets the fish and when Pickle did I looked at it and it was a short but fat Larry he weighed around 2lbs. maybe less awww nuts I was all worked up about it to oh well. It felt good to boat a fish still!!! So ok we got a nice fish in the boat maybe we all can catch some nice fish now. I set my wife up with a shakey head with a small Mardi Gras color finesse worm she starts fishing Pickle is still using his stuff they are hooking into small fish but there getting bigger so that was a good sign.

So I was helping my wife take fish off for a bit and then got back to fishing and I hooked into another Nice bass that would not come up at all again but this time I was not going to freak out ya right Pickle grab the net fish comes up never mind just another 1 to 2lbs fish. We called it a day around 11:30am totals for the day were around 8 dinks for Pickle 4 dinks for my wife and 2 one to two pound fish for me they got quantity I got quality.

I use imageshack myself but the link above should help you out.

Sounds like you eventually had a good time fishing after all the frustrations Wink

Nice report ya a lot of people say West Hill has some huge bass in it but I've never caught anything of any size from there.

last year chuck ran a ctfishtalk tourney there and we had 2 7lber+ come to the scales. One of them was caught with 4lb test, I think that is the secret there.
