Hit up Spring Pond at around 6:15 a.m. this morning. Fished the Western Shore, I think it's the Culvert Launch, and was unproductive. I opened the day with repel popper w/ white skirt and didn't even get a swirl. Fished about 3 different spots then switched to texas rigged weighless worm. Fished about 4 different colors working different angles and still, no fish.

Moved on to other spots while walking back and fourth working the same locations with different presentations. Nothing worked. Switched to a wacky rigged pumpkin senko and got no hits on that either. Pretty discouraged at this point.

At about 9:45, switched it up to a weighted texas rigg and still didn't get any hits. Fished that for about an hour in different spots while fishing a rapala minnow while twitching, and you know what's gonna come next....no fish.

About 11:00, I went up to Batterson to try my luck there. Fished near the boat launch and it had tons of weeds and didn't manage to catch anything in about an hour.

Finally, I drove around to the other side of the lake and fished in the Northern cove and East of the beach area and didn't catch a thing. Fished with about 8 different presentations and about 5 different techniques.

Stopped fishing after 2 hours at Batterson. Fished from 6:15ish a.m. to 1:00 p.m. without a single bite, hookset, or FISH! I don't know what I'm doing wrong, nothing I am doing is seeming to work. It was still fun but, not catching anything in my past 5 outings is extremely, extremely pathetic. I don't know what's going on or what I am doing wrong or if I should even keep fishing.

I'm at the lowest of lows.

Ouch... That's discouraging.

I'm charged with taking out my wife's young cousins tomorrow late morning/early afternoon and those are the two places I was considering. Right now I'm leaning towards Spring Pond because at least it's a nice area and we can have a picnic or something if no fish are biting... I wouldn't want them getting stuck with a needle at Batterson Shocked

I was planning on targeting Pickerel at Spring Pond and power-fishing the place with spinner baits and maybe a devil's horse. Both work very well even at this time of year on southern Champlain, but then again this is a completely different animal.

I know it's pretty hot out but at least with these two baits we'll have the option of slowing down if nothing hits them fast.

I think I'd better take some nightcrawlers for the kids, just in case....

This time of year try fishing tubes, jigs, creature baits, drop shot rigs, and carolina rigs on outside weed edges in 8 to 10 feet of water or deeper on most lakes. It's been bright and hot, the fish try to stay out of the sun and in the cooler water/shady spots, under docks etc.

Since it's warmed up, I've had some success with 4 inch Yum mardigras (i.e., watermelon/purple flake) tubes on 1/8 oz Arkie jig heads. The last time I was out on Burr Pond, the bass would hit the tube if I let it sink to the bottom and the pickerel would hit it if I cranked it. I'd think a small jig with a trailer would work well, too.

I will definately let you know next time I hit up the FR which might be soon. Maybe I'm doing something wrong and you can help out, who knows.

Peco, where can you get tubes? I've never fished them before but am looking to try something different since nothing is working. Also, where is Burr pond, I might have to check the place out.

I've been looking for more tubes, but haven't seen the 4-inchers at Dick's lately. It had only 3-1/2 inch tubes. I want 4 inches and bigger. I can't remember where I picked up the ones I have; maybe Walmart?

I'm dying to go fishing, but am on an extended road trip and have been too busy with friends and family to hit the water. I'm in the Chicago area and will head to Toronto tomorrow.

I'll PM you when I get home in a little over a week. You'd definitely be welcome to try out my little kayak.

I like 1/8 oz Arkie jig heads, which look kinda like these:

You push them into the tube and force the eye of the hook through the side of the tube about 5/8 inch back from the tip. I think this keeps the hook pointed up, which helps to prevent snags.

Funny thing; the description for the jig heads in the link I posted mentions the "popular magnum-sized tubes". I guess I'll have to hit a Cabelas for some tubes!
