I just had the best day I've had at Salters all year!
Fished from 12:30-2. Threw the frog over the floating mats of vegetation with no hits for an hour. Switched up to a red shad senko. I was messing around with a fast jerkbait retrieve when a 18" pickerel smashed it. I landed it, and it was back in the water within 20 seconds. It was the biggest pickerel I have ever seen in there! . Then, I toss out the senko, and I see a flash, but I feel no bite and the line doesn't move. I set the hook and it was interesting to land this one from shore with a reel that you could reel backwards as well as forwards. And, I didn't do the thing that always happens when a bass is landed from shore, it didn't touch the ground!
This one weighed in at a hair under 2lbs, and is the biggest bass I have ever landed here! _________________ Catch and release only.

Your pickerel falls into my "decent" range of 18 inches and up. The 14-1/2 incher that I caught today was just a slimy little fish. That's a pretty bass, too. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |
