a buddie and i hit the lake at 5:00 fished till 11:00 water temp 78 skies were mostly cloudy with wind. we picked up 20 fish between us, mostly dinks. all were very fat and healthy. we put 6 keepers in the boat the largest being 5lbs 2oz caught by me, i was using a 5inch senko wackky rigged. fish was under some pads in a foot to a foot and a half of water. there is a picture of it in the photo gallery,i could not figure out how to attach to post. thats why i fish and not work with computers lol _________________ theres a skeeter on my peter wack it off! |

Nice fish. Was at Winchester a week ago and didn't catch anything like that in size. It didn't help that there was a tournament going also when SkeeterRon and I got there.

Any sign of pike? I want to head that way as it is closer than most of the places I fish for them. Just a little nervous about the stumps. Guess I'll have to check it out for myself. Should I use troll motor only? _________________ Go big or go home! |

Flipper, if you have a fiberglass bassboat and really baby it then I would be very careful running there as there are stump fields all over this lake some just underneath the surface especially in the back side but it is like bass condo back there. If you have a tin then I wouldn't worry about it so much. Either way just go slow and take your time.

There's an 8 mph limit on Winchester Lake, but I think you'd be insane to try it. If you're not going to paddle, I think using only your trolling motor would be a wise choice.
Regarding northern pike, when I was out there, I met a guy who has lived on the lake for over 20 years. He said he's pulled five northern pike out of there, but only one was legal-sized (i.e., 26 inches or longer).

Probably the most "bassy-est" looking lakes in the Northeast and probably one of the toughest also. That place has some hogs in it but man can that place be stingy. i havent spent to much time up there so i cant say it has been bad to me but the times i have been there i worked dam hard for the ones i got.
nice fish! not so nice hat! |
