monday morning 1-3
A buddy an i went out on cwood for some night fishing (1st ever tiime at night there.)
We fished the town park for about two hours from 1am-3am.
We fished the right side from the private beach - the sand dune.
My buddy and I only caught 3 smallies and missed about 4 using soft plastics.
Besides live bait, could you guys give some tips on catching fish on candlewood.
Small mouth and trout info especially plz.

| Try top water baits at nite.Jitterbugs spooks buzz baits and spinnerbaits in dark colors. |

We did but, had no hits...
For what ever reason we have had better luck with under water platics.

7 bites in 2 hours is pretty darn good fishing. I wouldn't think that would be the area for trout after the water warmed past the 50's. Deep water is too far away. There is a cove off New Fairfield bay with a stream dumping in and is fairly deep. I am not sure if you can access it from shore but that looked like a good area to me. We caught a bunch of trout on the shore between chimney and Oak points this spring. The road runs close there, not sure if you can access it for shore fishing or not either. Throw a aurora black or ghost minnow slender pointer in the spring and you will catch some trout
Back to Danbury, you might try floating stanley Ribbitts. You can fish them slower than other frog baits and can vary the retrieve, pausing them. The nite guys up here throw the muskie jitterbug a lot at night. I bet if you ran one parallel to shore along that rip rap you'd get clobbered. I don't fish at night anymore but when I did I would throw the same thing that I did during the day......a jig n pig |
