Went down to Old Lyme last week (after 6 years of not going) and did some fishing and boy was I shocked at the price Sandworms are now going for.
As a result I am now looking at plastic worms (that I can keep in my tackle box and not have to worry about store hours and waste)and the one that I see good things about in the store ads are the Berkley Gulp baits.
In particuar the Bloodworms and Sandworms and so I was wondering if anyone here has used them and what has been the verdict when compared to live worms?

The only way I fish them is on a tubeNworm rig,..however the Gulp-Alive sandworms have out produced the real thing about 3-to-1 for me!! My guess is that if you fish them both side-by-side, that the real worms will get eaten first,..however they will both get eaten as long as there's fish around!
BTW,..I've tried the regular Gulp sandworms and have never caught a thing with them,...make sure you get the Gulp-Alive. They are expensive but IMO worth the price!!

I like them also because they are much tougher than the real thing and stay on your hook a lot better!! I caught this one Friday evening using a Gulp-Alive worm!

Is the navigation light an accessory on your Hobie (that is a Hobie, right?) or is it an aftermarket thing? Either way, it's pretty slick!

Thanks for the information.
Good to KNOW that they really work in the real world!
As you said their stuff is a bit on the pricey side, so I wanted to know more about them before I got some and they ended up sitting unused at the bottom of my tackle box!
And then having to shell out $$$ for live bait on top of it.
BTW I saw a special offer at Dicks Sporting this week offering a $5.00 rebate if you buy 2 packages, so that should help a bit on the cost.

Yep I was right they do have a $5.00 rebate offer on the pint size ($10.00 if you buy 2) and on top of that they seem to be on sale this week for $14.98!

I just got some of these recently to try.

After fishing ( a short tube-n-worm troll) I left the fake worm on the hook. I was surprised by what I saw after a couple days. Unlike regular rubber worms, this thing dried out and shrunk by 50%. That tells me that the scent is throughout the worm, not just on the outside. Quite impressive. You can just put it back in the scent solution and the worm will be good as new.

I'm really just getting started in this whole kayak thing so I don't have much to report yet - I'm optimistic though.

I have tried fishing with them also. However I have not caught anything with them yet. I fish from shore and I will tell you, that the turtles and crabs enjoy munching on them.

There are times I reel in and half the worm is gone.

Phil, that is my buddy Mark's Hobie. He is the one who talked me into getting a Hobie. As for the light that is an aftermarket as the Hobie's do not come with lights but they have plenty of space for all kinds of accessories for you to buy and mount such as rod-holders, fishfinder, gps, rocket tubes, etc. Hurry up and get yours will ya so we can hook. Maybe Mark can teach the both of us some sweet saltwater spots. From what he's told me there is nothing better than hooking up a good striper in a kayak!! Can you say Nantucket sleigh ride!
