Just started fishing and doing some research on what to use for lures and bait. Live a few hundred feet from the ct river and that's probably mostly were I will fish, but do have access to a private lake at the inlaws. Will probably fish from the river bank most of the time but do have a canoe and can borrow a kayak most anytime.
Hopefully you guys are nice to newbies:) |

Welcome to the site Cruzer. Right time and the right bait and you'll catch some nice stripers out of that river.

Slimecoat - Thanks yeah i have a bunch of questions but will post em in the CT river forum probably since thats were i will be doing most of my fishing
Skeeterjim - ha yeah deffinitly need to figure out time and bait - have tried a few things (nightcrawlers, minolure(?), etc) I am thinking of throwing a sodabottle mino trap in the water for a few hours and see if i can get some decent size live minnows to try out on sunday morning. I am thinking of taking the canoe out and trying a couple places just up river from my house that i scouted out this past weekend (trees in the river and some grass) Seems i have mostly seen carp in the river in these grassy areas when in the kayak?? not sure though. They were big and were very active early in the morning, had a diamond shape pattern on them and whiskers.
Old Mud- I only fish tuna if we are going to be "dolphin" safe about it. Plus i didn't think tuna went up to maine so i am thinking you are mistaken tuna for lobster.
Turtlekiss- not sure how good the lake is, plus it's pretty small/shallow but it is priviate. I know their are some bass in their. |

Cruzer, not nightcrawlers.....sandworms, bloodworms, cut mackeral or live baitfish will call those stripers to you.
