I stopped by my local pond for a 1/2hr on my way home from work last night. I caught a couple of very small LMB on the 5" wacky pumpkin senko out of the weeds. The strange thing was on one of my retrieves when the bait got close to shore I saw a 24"+/- water snake jump out of the reeds and grabbed my bait. I really couldn't believe it. That thing must have been hungry. Here's a few pics and proof that senkos can catch just about anything...
...yes it was catch and release...
...and since this is a fishing website here's a couple of pics of the fish.

| Wow, I had a very similar experience today. That snake is not even hooked! |

| Nope he wasn't hooked. He was just hanging by his fangs from the worm. Like I said he must have been hungry. |

Hi DD!
FYI:
The coloration and markings on that snake you caught interested me, so I did some research.
Its a Northern Water Snake (non-venomous) which is quite common in Ct.

| That's what I found when I looked it up too, SeaDog. I looked it up to find out about the non-venomous part and was glad to see that for sure. Thanks for the confirmation. |

I've seen more snakes swimming in ponds this year than I did over the previous two years. Last year, I pulled an 18-incher out of the Farmington River by hand. It appeared to have broken its back near its tail when it was younger and couldn't swim after it fell into the water. It kept rolling over and over without going anywhere. I threw it onto the bank.

There is a HUGE black rat snake at the Branford supply pond ,I'm talkin 6-7 foot bugger.......
