This past Friday I took another trip out on the Yellowbird (in New Hampshire) for some deep sea cod fishing. We went out about 8 miles and fished with jigs and clams for cod. We started at 5:00am and headed back at about 2:30pm. We had a great time and the boat actually returned early because we limited out at about 2:30pm. There were 3 of us in our group and we were pulling in some pigs. The largest fish we caught was a 34 pounder and we only had to put back 1 small fish the whole day. We ended up with a total of about 75lbs of fillets. The average fish were between 20lbs and 25lbs. Here's a few pics...

Hi DD!
Hope you fillet the Cod Cheeks out -> (size of a sea scallop).
BEST! part of the Cod.
As a kid, my Grandfather would take me to the fishhouses in New Bedford and we would fillet the Cod Cheeks out of the heads.
We'd come home with dozens, then Grandma would cook them up.
Fabulous eating
Best regards,

any worms in the filets? They are harmless but I am a sissy and can't get passed the thought of eating worms. Sorry if I ruined your appetite _________________ Sorry honey, looks like we will be late again due to motor problems.

We only kept the cheeks on the larger cod. The smaller they get obviously the smaller the cheeks will be and they are tougher to cut out. The best way to cut them out is feel for them first and then cut around them with a very sharp knife. The tongues are pretty good too. The other cool thing I found out on this trip was how to remove the cod ear bones which are pretty cool little thing to have. I guess if you know what you are doing you can tell the age of the fish from these bones.
So far I haven't found any worms in the fillets. I have in the past and I just remove them after the fillets are cooked. As you said Justin, the worms are harmless they just look a bit weird. |

Dawg was kind enough to let me try some of his cod. The fillet finally defrosted last night, so my daughter and I enjoyed the breakfast of champions this morning:
Thanks, again, Derek. We loved it. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |
