Went to check out batterson today after work/school from 6-9:30. Got there at 5:45 and looked at the launch and said "thank god we brought the bass tender and not the bass tracker". It probably would have been a nightmare launching that thing.

We headed out and went over to the cove on the left. On the first cast with a yamamoto flappin' hog, dad hooks up with a 2+lb largemouth. He casted over to the top of the rocks and twitched it down the rocks when the bass hit. We worked the rest of that area with no luck. We got down past the beach and I threw on a wacky rigged watermelon yum worm and threw it into some weeds(thanks for the idea PECo). I began to work it back to the boat after the initial drop and I hooked up with an 8" largemouth. No more skunk. Very Happy

I then got another largemouth on the same setup that was about 1.5lbs. We kept working the shore and kept getting bites from small stuff, but dad did hook up with another 2+lb largemouth on a wacky rigged green pumpkin yamamoto 5" senko. It was getting kindof dark so we headed back to the launch and loaded up the boat.

At that time, two DEP workers confronted us and asked us to participate in a "survey". They asked us what we were fishing for, what we were using, and how often we go fishing. Since they were asking so many questions, we figured we could get some info out of them also. Wink So we asked them what they thought was the best bass lake west of the river, and they said Ball Pond over near candlewood. They said they went shocking there and got a largemouth that was over 8lbs, a true giant. They also said that they heard of people who fish there during the spawn and consistently catch fish over 5lbs. I think we will be making a trip there. Very Happy

Overall, I was impressed with the amount of fish there and I think we will be heading back pretty soon.

I've also gotten a lot of hits when twitching a wacky worm over the rocks from the shallows. The next time you're there, you should check out the north end of the eastern shore and 50 yards off and just south of the beach. Spinners with a swirlytail grub on the hook, buzzbaits and shallow diving Rapalas work well toward the middle of the pond.

I'm dying to head out there for some walleye. If I wake up in the middle of the night, I just might head over there.

Oh, and remember that both engines and motors are prohibited on Ball Pond.
