I left work early on Friday and hit the beach in my kayak for a bit. Managed to catch a keeper (29") in addition to a few schoolies,....everything was on the top with either a zara spook or a houdini. All in all, a pleasant day to be on the water and a great way to start the weekend!

I prize them a lot more as a gamefish than as a meal,..so I am releasing everything that I catch!

Rob, Mark is fishing from a Hobie Outback. I found out once you try a Hobie (although pricey) you'll never consider another kayak so I bought one also (Pro Angler). Fishing from a kayak is a whole different ball-game, one in which things are simpler and one that makes you a better fisherman because your range is more limited than being in a boat and running from spot to spot, which in turn makes you fish areas more thoroughly. Man it is sooooo much fun sometimes I feel bad leaving my bass boats at home. I know guys who have sold off their bass boats just to get back to when fishing was much more simpler (no way in hell I'm even considering selling my boat but you know what I mean). Thanks again Mark for getting me into a Hobie!!  If you'll thinking of a kayak check out the Hobie line because once you peddle and fish rather than paddle you are hooked! Sorry if this sounded like a commercial and no I am in no way affliated with Hobie.

Thanks Skeeter Jim. I will definately look into that line of Kayaks. Peddle instead of paddle? Really?
I will have to investigate more.

Rob your welcome. Check out the Hobie line and you'll see the Mirage Drive system. The whole theory behind that was to enable the fisherman to free up his hands from paddling so he can spend more time casting versus holding onto a paddle. Also the Mirage Drive will enable you to peddle a hell of alot longer than paddling because you are using stronger leg muscles rather than your shoulders. Want proof, ask anyone who paddles their kayak how their shoulder muscles are after a long day on the water. Contact Collinsville Canoe Co. in Canton or The Boat Locker in Westport. They are the only 2 Hobie dealers in the state.

I agree my shoulders/back are sore for atleast a day or 2 after a long day on the water. It's especially hard when playing a fish or casting close to shore, constantly having to do weird things with a paddle to maintain boat control or not to drift into the prime fish holding spots. If you can afford it hobies are the way to go!
