Locally, check out Nod Brook WMA, which is right on the Simsbury-Avon border off of Route 10. It has decent largemouth bass (most up to 17 inches and a couple around 20 inches) and really nice chain pickerel (many over 20 inches). My first fish of the year was a nice 20-inch pickerel out of there:
Bring a boat though. Fishing from shore there kinda sucks. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Nod Brook WMA is south of The Hartford's Simsbury campus. The entrance to the park is inside the entrance to Tower Office Park, which is just north of the Connecticut Light and Power building. It's sometimes closed on the weekend for hunting dog field trials, but always open during the week. Here's the schedule for the field trials:

The lower (i.e., north) pond is pretty weed infested right now. The upper (i.e., south) pond usually stays pretty clear. It's a terrific place to paddle. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Bantam has a lot of shore fishing from the campground. check it out. I've never fished it from shore, but it looked like there were plenty of places to do it from to me.
