Hi everyone,
My family has a home on Lake Champlain, and I grew up fishing there. I haven't done much in Connecticut aside from a few trips to the Farmington River and Batterson Park.
I'm planning on buying a few catfish rigs for my wife and I to use on Lake Champlain, but might as well test them out in CT before I get up there.
I just figured I'd say hello |

Catfish in Lake Champlain? I never would have thunk it. Isn't Lake Champlain really, really cold in the depths? It's a partially enclosed body of water (e.g., kinda like Loch Ness) that can be subject to seiches (i.e., standing wave activity). I thought that there's a pretty severe permanent thermocline down there.
I have an Aunt and Uncle who have owned a seasonal cabin on Lake Champlain since I was a kid. They've been telling me that I should head out there with my kids, but we haven't gotten around to it, yet. I haven't been there since I was 10 years old, but the thing I remember the most vividly about it is that it was COLD! Brrrr. . . . _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Lake Champlain is an interesting lake, geologically. Up North, near Plattsburgh or Burlington, yes, it is very cold and very deep. Down south further, near Ticonderoga (near my house), it is murky water with vast weedbanks on both sides before it drops down. It also tends to drop more quickly on parts of the VT side around my home. You end up waking up and asking yourself if you feel like going for large or smallmouths. It's a good dilemma to have
You should definitely take your kids up there, they'd have a blast. If they're old enough to deal with an hour or so car ride from boat launch to boat lauch, you could try all sorts of fishing. |

It's been over 30 years since I've been to Lake Champlain, so, yes, my kids are older and can handle long car rides.
Thanks for the info. Now I have to find out on what end of the lake the house is! _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |
