how do you keep a spinnerbait from doing circles (rolling over)? I could understand it if I were using a spinning reel and line was twisting but a baitcasting reel? anyone know a cure? thanks cmorjoe |

My experience is first buy good quality. Those cheap Cabela 1.99 jobs will roll more so than a Booyah or a Strike-King. Let your wife or partner use those...LOL. I never throw anything larger than a 1/2oz. I usually throw a 3/8 oz double willow with a 4.5 blade on the back and a trailer like a grub. For me the heavier the bait and the larger the blades, the slower you have to go. I use a 6:3 or like a 6:2 reel at a moderate speed and maybe a little faster or slower depending on cover. I go by feel mostly, I have to feel the "Thump". You can tell exactly what your bait is doing after awhile. Whether its rolling over or a smaller fish hits or even when it gets a spec of weed on it. When the thump stops, set the hook. When I night fish a 3/8 oz thin wire with a #6 Colorado blade, tons of vibration. The thinner wire baits vibrate a ton more but get hammered by big fish. I always use 14lb mono. Don't use braid. Never tried with flouro
I wouldnt say its my favorite bait to throw, although I always have one tied on. Anyone will tell ya, when you get on a good spinnerbait bite it's the best. Love those windy points!! |
