So today I got up early and packed the canoe for Spring pond, my main goal of the day was a photo worthy fish on calm water. Was on the water at 6am and landed a 12" LMB on a 4" watermelon senko within the first 5 minutes, nothing after for about 2 hours. Got tons of short strikes on the senkos and switched to a watermelon tube (something I had no faith in and never used) and got 2 small ones back to back. I think I may have found a better bait then senkos. Sun kicked up and I figured fishing pressure from the weekend had the bass finicky and packed it in.
Got a call as soon as I got home from a buddy and hit up Bolton lake lower and middle. Didn't fish much as it became a beer outing but caught 2 14" bass trolling a perch xrap deep. Got a couple more on the senko and abut 5 bluegill hitting a bait bigger than they are. Switched to the tube again half heartly casting and jigging. Got a major strike from a pissed LM that got hooked good, this guy jumped out of the water 3 times and took out tons of drag. Went 16" and I estimate 3-4 lbs since I don't care enough to buy a scale. My PB from the bolton lakes. Middle and upper looks way better with more rising fish, baitfish and weeds. Also tried to sight fish this small bass for like 1/2 hour, this fish did not want anything but those 2inch baitfish it was feeding on. I must of watched him eat like 6 in the time I threw a slew of baits at it.
Main this I realized today was bass eat the dumbest looking bait likes tubes and brush hogs. And the less I paid attention the more I caught, too bad that weren't bigger.

Great post man. That not paying attention thing is called deadsticking. It does wonders when you are not paying attention, picking up the cell phone, getting a bite to eat, lighting up a smoke...you get the idea. |

I think the largemouth bass are finally starting to get a little more active. I know the 10- to 16-inchers are starting to bite. I just need to figure out what the 20+ inchers want to eat. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

I caught this bass back in 08 from Bantam
when I stopped reeling in my spinnerbait with 20 yards left to reel, to talk to my mother on the phone. As soon as I said "what" my line takes off and I remember sayin "Holy Sh*t" and hanging up the phone. |

Haha nice fish BT. It seems that I always go my best the less I pay attention. Today I caught a 17" bass when i put my pole down to better position my canoe. |

There should be an app for that...there probably isn't, but it would be nice to have an automated message explain all of the swearing and clanking to the other party when the phone hits the bottom of the boat.
Then the phone will switch to camera mode automatically. _________________ Kira

Of a small size, sure...lots! Bolton is one of the places in my "vicinity" that I go to for the sake of variety, but my best fish are caught with nightcrawlers during overnight hours. Plenty of nice channel cats near the launch area. _________________ Kira

Way to accomplish your goal, DV. SOunds like a good day.
BT, I've had similar phone experiences and have almost lost them into the lake when it happens. Great story. |

I dropped a very nice and very expensive digital camera into a pond once, while i was running to get a hit on my pole. just for it to be a small yellow perch. Definitely was not worth it. _________________ "Come after Me, and i will make you to become fishers of men"

Yeah kira I have caught some pretty huge channel cats out of bolton during the midnight hours on cut panfish. Never a good size bass though, I mainly go there since it is the closest lake near my house. Couple years ago I caught a brightly colored smallmouth out of there that had me really confused, thought there was only LM in those lakes. |
