Is it just me or has the river been low for the past 2 striper seasons? I live in Enfield, but fish mostly in Windsor. It seems the river has been higher in August than it has been in May. Yesterday, I had a hard time even finding water deeper than 5 ft and most of it was 2-3ft. I know this stretch of the river well, but the water is just too low. It seemed like in the middle of the striper season last year, the water went down and the fish disappeared.
I have heard that Holyoke closes the dam just before the weekends to draw the water up for recreational purposes on their side. What about the effect it has downstream? Am I the only one that finds this disturbing? |

A new system was installed a few years ago to control spillage. They replaced the flashboards with an inflatable / deflateable bladder. They shut the flow off easier and more frequently so the can make more money on water passing through the turbines. _________________ Real boats don't have propellers!

We also have that global warming thing going on so the snow melt is happening weeks earlier and the high water no longer coincides with the later part of the striper fishing. Go earlier, we get hundreds in march and April when most people have no clue that they are even in the river yet! _________________ Real boats don't have propellers!

Oops! A Republican...it's warmer because god is hugging us closer with his greenhouse gasses that he put here 5,000 years ago when he made the Earth. Amen. _________________ Real boats don't have propellers!
