Hey, I went to Walmart and exchanged my cheapo Berkley scale for another one. I'm pretty sure I caught the same largemouth bass a couple of times and it weighed the same on both scales. Unless you have a better suggestion, I'm going to have to stick with the one I have. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

I think I caught the same fish again this morning! It's still 18 inches, but a few ounces heavier now.

Well if its not the scale then you must be measuring in centimeters Are you actually putting these fish on a tape or just guestamating? The bass in my report is 20 and 3/4 inches long. |

Do you know how Marie was "a little bit country" and Donny was "a little bit rock and roll"? Well, I'm a little bit OCD so, yes, I always measure my fish.
I marked my old kayak paddle in inches but, since I lost half of it yesterday, today I used the stainless steel measuring tape on my Lipper Push Button Fish Gripper.
I must catch only the skinny bass.

This is how I guage bass 12-16 inch bass not picture worthy weigh between -.5 pounds to almost 3 pounds. 17-19 pushin high 4 pounds. 20-21 is defaintly a 5+ pound plus fish, 22 is 6+ pounds, 23 is 7+ pounds, and 24 is 8+ pounds (which I am currently chasing for the whole summer), and so on. Then again everything depends on the belly of the fish as well. I caught one largemouth that was only 16 inches long but weight 4 pounds 6 ounces looked like it ate a mallard duck! |

Hey, SkeeterJim
I checked my photos to see whether I've been catching the same fish over and over again. There's a pretty distinctive scale pattern on largemouth bass.
It turns out that the 18-inch, 2 lb 14 oz bass I caught today is the same fish as the 17-inch, 2 lb 11 oz bass I caught last Sunday! It grew about one inch and three ounces in five days. Also, I caught it on the north end of Spring Pond on Sunday and the south end today. I don't know how to post photos, but here's a link:

None of the others matched, but I think that's pretty cool. If only I could catch it again next year. . . .

Bluegill,
I understand your size theory, and how girth really affects it, so I would like to support this by providing a few examples.
The fish below was 4lbs 4 ounces. It was 20 inches long on the dep fish measuring bumper sticker.
The fish below was 5 pounds 9 ounces and just alittle over 20 inches. It was WAY fatter than the four pounder.
Even though some people may think that any fish that's 20 inches is 5 pounds, it depends on the girth! _________________ Catch and release only.
A 4lb bass is not going to grow to 8lbs on your wall.
