What a day at Beseck ...............
The day started with a some controversy which left me unfocused and mentally scewed up for the first 1.5 hours or so, but when I finally landed my first fish I got back into the swing of things and fished hard.
Surface Water temp: 60 to 64 degrees
Water clarity: semi stained
Air temps: 55 jumping up to close to 80
Winds: light to moderate at times
We start out at 6:30am instead of 7am, and head to the north end of the lake. Pointing dog catches 3 quick keeper largemouth rats in the 1 to 1.5 lb range on a pop R in the shallows. Meanwhile I stew in the back of the boat and fish terribly. Plenty of empty beds in the shallows now occupied by sunfish. We decide to move up the bank and P Dog catches the next 2 fish on a tube, in the 4 foot range, the 4th keeper is a 1lb 11 oz largemouth.
The limit fish hits his tube hard and the rod is doubled over real good, so I get the net and get it down near the water's surface. The big girl surges under the boat and as she appears I dip the net and swipe under the fish and "SNAP" the hoop from someones donated net breaks off at the yolk, " no need to use names, you know who you are", so being very mechanically inclined I instinctively look at the break and think for some stupid reason I can magically fix the net in .00025 seconds and net the fish. P Dog is yelling " Screw the net you DUMBASS just lip the fish, so I do and we now have a limit. This girl will weigh in at 4-1 I believe. After all that I finally get my crap together, settle down, and catch my first largemouth weighing 2lb 3oz , on a texas rigged green pumpkin senko type bait. We are now netless and lipping the fish at the side of the boat for each other. This fish came in 6 to 8 feet of water in the weed beds. We decide to continue to fish the weed beds in front of the beach area across from the launch, when I get smacked hard on the same senko bait, a nice 3lber pulling really hard, she took a little drag and then skyrockets out the water and continues to fight hard all the way to the boat. We both catch some larger fish in the mid to high 1lb range and cull for a few ounces each fish.
We decide to move to the north end and make another drift with the wind fishing the same area that we fished the last hour. I proceed to catch another nice 2.5 lber on the GP senko bait. We both catch a few more smaller keepers and cull for a couple ounces. We move to the docks on the launch side of the lake as the sun comes up stronger and I get slammed by another 2.5 lb largemouth under a dock, and she cooperates by rising to the surface and jumping just as I pull her over the criss cross PT wooden supports under the dock. We catch a few smaller fish and finish out the day.
After some more controversy before the weigh in, I didn't pay attention to the weights, so I can't give you accurate #'s.
First place: Pointing dog & Slimecoat with 14lbs. 13oz.
2nd place ? 11lbs. and change
3rd place: ? 10lbs and change
Lunker : Mike S. with a 4-4 largemouth
All boats caught fish, some better than others. A few bass were caught on beds we hear, most beds were empty. _________________ Life's Short - Fish Hard - Take a Kid Fishing |

What made it great about breaking the net, every fish, and i mean every fish, was hooked so well, we had to use pliers on most fish to get the hook out....and not one fish was gullet hooked either.... Unless the line broke, we were not losing them! _________________ "Stay thirsty my friends..." |
