Went out about 4:00pm braved the 25 plus mph wind. Glad I did I don't think I have had a day like this up there since I was in my late teens. I went to the side I used to fish from shore, within 5 minutes I caught a 3lb LMB the next 2.5 hrs I hammered 1 more 3 plus LMB, 2 LMB over 2lbs. 3 more 1-2 lbs. I'm guessing that they are still on the beds. I was unable to see any bed do to the wave action and all the work needed to keep Kayak in fishing position. I missed 2 or 3. All were caught on 4" Grape grub on 1/8oz jig. I did not even have a chance to go to my old reliable Black Jig and Pig. Fish were all caught on a super slow presentation. All were put back to make some more for future action. Sorry for no pictures left camera in car and was not going back in that wind.

Nice. I'm planning to head out there in my kayak tomorrow. Which way from the boat ramp, right or left?

NICE.

JUST for giggles, pack a dough bait, or some corn and a 6 pack of your favorite suds.

IF you get down toward that beach front, toss out your corn/dough and crack a beer. there are some WICKED carp that hang out down there. They will surely take you for a kayak cruise across the lake if ya hook one.

Schmoe

I actually bought small cans of creamed corn and corn kernels to try my hand at carping in Nod Brook WMA, where I normally fish. There are a couple of shallow areas where I'll often kayak over half a dozen three-foot carp. They look like little submarines, well, except for the gold one. . . .

MAMMOTH carp.

I dont know why, but in the summer, you will find areas that are totally shredded. the water is cloudy, the plants are in bits and pieces, and goliath mud suckers are to blame.

How do you deal with the wind when you fish from your kayak? Do you have a skirt on it to keep the spray out? I have a little sit-inside eight-footer and can't really handle wind that's over 8 MPH or so.

LOL... Skirts come in handy but think its unneeded for windy days just put on water proof pants and jacket and you are all good. Cheapest is from sportsmans guide they got used waterproof gortex pants for 15 bucks... works great for 2-3 seasons...

I wore my boot foot waders today. It was in the 50s and threatening rain when I went out. But by the time I came in, it was calm and sunny, and I was HOT!

I thought about getting some waterproof pants for the Summer. Thanks for the recommendation.

hey man. yeah, skirts aren't really needed, and a cheap pair of rain suit pants also works if needed...

As far as getting blown around, they make a small folding anchor for belly boats. looks like a cross between a mini grapling hook and an antique mariners anchor. Works like a CHARM in a Yak.
I have Old Town Otters, and have that steel pole on the floor to tie off.

I'm just here to comment on the Sportsman's Guide...it has some comedy gold within the pages. Lots of cheesy descriptions, bizarre items & a scattering of good deals on things that actually make sense. If you're a fan of SkyMall or Harriet Carter, then I highly recommend the SG catalog!

It's an entertaining catalog. That's all. No sarcastic wiseassery intended this time.
