I fished Batterson yesterday afternoon. The surface temp read 56 to 57 degrees. All said and done I caught six fish. One Walleye, three Yellow Perch, and Two Bass. Biggest fish was a Bass out 2 to 2-1/2lbs taken on a 3/8oz green pumpkin strike king jig with a yum crawbug trailer. Everything else was caught on a Rapala X rap jerkbait. I didn't run into and Bass until I hit the sand flat down by the white dock. I had the place to myself yesterday. First time out this year and it was alot of fun.

Does anyone know if Batterson had some work done to it? To the left of the boat launch it looked different then I remember. There was a long pronounced rock wall and the shoreline looked like it changed at one point. I wasnt sure if the water level was just lower exposing the rocks I never noticed before or what. Can someone fill me in?

The pronounced rock wall has been there as long as I've been going there...unless they did something this year (haven't been there yet) but it's pretty hard to see once the weeds come in. Maybe I need to swing by there and check it out. Might be spawning after the 80s we have coming our way.

Basstard, what the Parks Dept did was cut back alot of the weeds, shrubs and the cat-tails so the shoreline obviously does look a little different than before.

I live just down the street from there, and go there just about every day with my daughter (she likes the water fowl) the rock wall that is visible is due to the lower water level. I don't think its all that deep there to begin with.

I got readings of 5-8 ft next to the wall, and its noticeably shallow on the other side of the wall. The water level is a maybe a foot lower than usual.

Kira You are right about the pond side of the wall I was looking at it from the shore out.

I fished Batterson from my little eight-foot kayak for the first time in late Fall last year. It was very cold and windy, and all I got for my effort were a few little yellow perch. That said, your posts about Batterson have inspired me to give it another shot. Thanks for all the terrific first-hand information. I'm hoping for some walleye, and to see you out there, of course.

After dinner tonight, I ran over to Batterson to get in a few casts from my kayak. I got there around 8:00 PM. Night fell pretty quickly and, given my unfamiliarity with the shoreline, I was not prepared to fish in the dark, so I left at 8:45 PM. But in the 45 minutes I was out there, I caught one little nine-inch largemouth bass. I'll definitely be back during the next calm day to check it out again.

In my defense, I hadn't been fishing for almost two days, so this isn't so strange, is it?
