Went out on the first camping weekend of the year, mainly to fish their private pond, which they said holds big bass.
Got there on 4/22, unloaded and set up all of the stuff, and took a walk to the smaller pond to test out a new frog lure. I casted out to some vegetation, twitched it to open water, and a 15" pickerel blew up on it. I knew it was jumping for the frog because I reeled in the line with the frog lure bitten right off. I hate small pickerel.
Took the boat out to the big pond and saw fish jumping everywhere and got a 7" bluegill on a floating rapala trolled behind the boat while missing many others.
The next day our friend who is a tournament angler who fishes soft plastic worms like I've never seen before shows up and takes the little one out with him on his boat. Within 20 minutes the little one catches a hog on a salamander dragged on the bottom, unfortunately our friend couldn't find his scale in his suitcase sized tackle box, but he did get a picture. I'd like to know know what all of you think this fish weighs, our friend thinks 3.5-4, and we are thinking around 4. Anyway, it is quite a fish.
A few other small bass that day but I did get a 2 lb bullhead that was fighting like a big bass on a live worm at dusk.
The next day not much was going on bass wise but we were getting sunfish that were on average 8" and one that was 12" and fat, probably weighed about a pound. In the afternoon just before the 20+ mph winds, dad picked up this hog on a 4.5" rubberworm in about 3 fow, it was 5 lbs 9 ounces.
I think we will be going back.
And for all of you guys who want to know where this spot is, I dont need to tell because there is plenty of access to private ponds, you just have to do your research and be friendly with a few people. _________________ Catch and release only.
A 4lb bass is not going to grow to 8lbs on your wall.

My guess that fish is probably 3 to 3.5....seems just a tad small for 4lbs. Nice job though!! _________________ Keep 'em hooked and get 'em in the boat! |
