IMO those LTA's run a little lighter than the ratings,...so the heavy is actually somewhere in between a "normal" heavy and a med-heavy, so I would expect that MH to be a little too light for flipping heavy cover!
Having said that,..the Simmons deal is a GREAT price that's very hard to resist and I have picked up a number of rods from them in the past (at a similar discount). They never seem to have that 7'6" Heavy though! Tough decision,..I'm sure that M/H is still a great rod but I would not buy it specifically for heavy cover!
You can occasionally find LTA's on Ebay,..however it's really hit or miss. In the past when I was building up my arsenal of rods, I used to save up & try to keep a couple of hundred bucks put aside specifically for when I'd see a very good ebay deal. If you do that and can be patient, then you can buy things at fairly reasonable prices,...but if you need to have something NOW,...it never seems to work out that you find exactly what you're looking for!
Ps: In all of this discussion about flipping rods,..I'm talking about fishing CT waters. I never go to Champlain or other places to fish chestnuts and I don't plan on going to Okeechobee or Toho any time soon. If you are then you may want to consider more what flippy had to say.
Hope that helps! _________________ "If people concentrated more on the really important things in life there'd be a shortage of fishing poles."

I am gonna bite the bullet and buy the Heavy rod from tackle warehouse. I think I will buy a mh as well for cranks baits. That price is to good to pass up. Thanks for everyones input. _________________ Sorry honey, looks like we will be late again due to motor problems.

The avid is a beautiful rod. One of the other members let me try his for flipping and it was amazing, so light and sensitive. I may pick one of those up in the future. _________________ Sorry honey, looks like we will be late again due to motor problems.

Diawa 7'H Light and Tough with a Curado 201e7...
Cheap and gets the job done. The Curado is great for the flippen part but does lack some strenth in the drag and crank power. The set up is super comfortable to fish. I dont flip that much though. _________________ You can play on your computer and hang out with your girlfriend if you want....Im gonna go fishin. |

The 2 I have are probably my favorite rods I own. I use them for both flipping and pitching , carolina rigs tx tigs, and swimbaits. I really like it with a jig when fishing deep weedlines. Once you get used to the length, those rods are more versatile than you think. I have 3 kistler flipping sticks 2 lta's and an argon. |
