This was my first time fishing Moodus...the forecast said it was going to be 84 degrees with 20mph winds in the afternoon, so I skipped sleep and had my boat in the water by 4:30 a.m. No wind, but cold enough to warrant a hoodie.
Someone lost a Bite Lite lure in the dip at the boat launch. I saw a red light flashing underwater, and knew what it was immediately. I've been wanting to try these ever since I saw the ad in the 2009 Angler's Guide! I just can't see paying $37.00 (including shipping) for 3 lures presented in such a shady manner (an ad disguised as a fake article.) I spent half an hour moving the water around with my oars until lure reached a depth where I could actually grab it. I am soooo glad no one was there to witness this. Also, pleased to report that my oars float. I haven't tried the lure yet.
I'm used to much more surface activity at this hour, but as you can see...nothing. When the "normal" people started launching around 6, only small ripples here and there. No splashing at all. I had no clue where to start fishing, so I just slowly made my way along the perimeter along the left. Everyone else went straight to the middle, or across, then counterclockwise. I started off with a buzzbait, a torpedo, and a plastic worm on a shaky jig head.
Caught this bass around 9:30 a.m. on an unweighted green and chartreuse soft plastic dual tail grub:
That's it. The wind picked up, the temperature reached the low 90's, and the wake from the speedboats sucked. I had to stay anchored in one spot for quite a while. Eventually I headed back, against the current...didn't know how much time my battery had left, but it did fine. Stayed until 3:30 p.m.
Checked out the small swampy area on the right of the launch before leaving...it's infested with these!
(Not hooked - just reached over the side of the boat and grabbed him. He was pissed.) _________________ Kira

Nice turtle Kira. You must have fast reflexes because when I go by them in my boat they're already underwater and on their way to the bottom. _________________ Eat, Sleep, Fish......I Love my SKEETER ZX225!!!

Metalfish - Painted, not painter. These don't know how to paint.
SkeeterJim - This male (long claws) was chasing 2 other turtles around and not paying attention to where he was going. It's turtle mating season. _________________ Kira

No, I'm a one-turtle girl. I'd never betray the trust of my freeroaming houseturtle, Koopa. Turtlekiss is also my website name...I grew up with a marsh in my backyard, and I've been obsessed with turtles (and fishing) since I was about 5. I do actually kiss Koopa...no tongue though. _________________ Kira
