I am thinking of having a multi species tourny on the river, you must catch
1-largemouth bass
1-smallmouth bass
1-crappie
1-pike
1-sunfish
1-carp
1-channel catfish or bullhead
You must catch 3 out of the 7 species, 1 each, they will be weighed together as combined weight, this tourny, you WILL be allowed live bait, if you catch 4 of the species you gain an extra pound per fish, so you could either look for a big pike and largemouth or you could go for other species to gain extra weight, BONUS, if you catch a Keeper striper you will gain 5 extra pounds plus weight of striper. Just a thought WHAT DO YOU THINK, sounds like fun.Fish Must be kept alive!! so just remember if you go for pike he must be alive, or he will not be counted!!! Same as carp, so you better have a huge cooler.

Sounds fun but tricky. If it comes together I'd be interested |

Already voiced that thought aside of this. Could imagine catching a pike or something then a crappie and going to weigh in wondering where's the crappie |

Sounds interesting....So for each extra fish or species you have on top of your 3 main species you get a pound?
Example:
5lb catfish
5lb pike
5lb carp
Would be 15lbs. if you caught 2 large mouths do you keep both and get a pound for both? _________________ You can play on your computer and hang out with your girlfriend if you want....Im gonna go fishin. |

In a multi-species tourney and your first catch is a pike? Awww, SNAP! This is exactly why the Pike Muzzle was invented just now, by me (patent pending.) Pike Muzzle is an adjustable harness that gently slips around your pike's face, protecting the other fish in your livewell. Solid steel bars allow the fish to continue being visibly angry to other fish. The design is still being worked on, so picture something like this, but on a pike instead:
I like the tourney concept & rules except stripers need to be left out of it. How about an option for non-boaters to fish from shore while their partners are on boats? Would be advantageous for carp/catfish. Partners could communicate through cell/text messaging.
LIVE BAIT - HELL YEAH! _________________ Kira

TopTech if you caught, 4 different species, example
1-largemouth 4lbs
1-smallmouth 3lbs
1-crappie 1lb
1-channel cat 6lb
you would have 14lbs but with catching 4 of the species you would gain 4 extra pounds so you would have 18lbs, so if everybody is thinking pike or carp stop and think about it, And if you only catch 3 species theres no bonus, if you catch less than 3 species, your out. you can only keep one species. for pike are like lobsters just rubberband their mouth, Most livewells on bassboats I dont think can fit a pike in it, I may be wrong, And Kira do you really think somebody will catch a keepr striper, boy are they going to make a long run to get one, If you want a partner to sit on shore and fish I have no problem with that, but you better hope your partner can catch 2 other species or your out. |

I'm no specialist when it comes to the CT River (and I probably shouldn't partake in this tournament or thread) but "you had me at live bait."
I've caught carp from shore enough times to know that they take their sweet-ass time, even if you chum the area. Never caught one from a boat & I can't imagine doing it without being anchored in one spot for a long time. If carp & catfish are going to be involved, then it would make sense to have one partner on shore and one on a boat...shore partner tries for the carp, catfish and sunfish, while boater tries for the bass and pike. If it happens differently, then so be it...everyone has a cell phone, right? This leaves room on the boat for some giant coolers.
I don't like that one misguided hungry striper could make the tournament one-sided automatically. Also, anyone can make that long run, catch a striper, and return...then catch a sunfish & catfish with relative ease. I'm sure you'd be able to find some serious carp/catfish fisherman who'd love to team up with the bass fisherman on something like this. _________________ Kira

Crapiky point. Ah I remember that story indeed. Ranks up there with the story of tralli's back boat buzzbaiting
johnny. Ah such a great guy to fish with whether its catching fish or storying telling and enjoying the company of the dock nazi following every inch as we make a flip or pitch.
