Hi Guys!
Well I was bored and decided to just take a ride with my Gordon Setter (MacDonough). Nice sunny day (42) and let puppy run at the Peoples Park next to the west branch of the Farmington River.
We both had a good time.
On the way home, stopped at the little stream that runs under the road right near the house.
(Have fished it before and caught only suckers.)
Just happened I had one of my ice jigging rods with me already rigged with a small green glow Hali.
Tipped the hook with a Gulp Alive Waxie and dropped it over the bridge railing and about 2 ft. down.
Jigged it 3 times then "BAM ", Hooked into a Big Brookie I estimated he went 2 lbs. maybe a little over.
To say I was shocked is an understatement
Released him and went back to jigging again.
About 5 minutes later -> again "BAM " .... Another Brookie a little smaller.
Released him!
Jigging again........This time I got 2 jigs in and "BAM " ......Yeap! You guessed it ......a 3rd Brookie This one about the same size as the second.
Released him!
Back to jigging ......... After 10 minutes.....Nothing!.....So I went home which took me less than a minute.
"Too Bad" the stream trout fishing ended yesterday (2/28/10)......Me and the wife could have had a nice Native fish dinner.
"Have to play by the Rules!"
Nice to know that stream has native Brookies And I can walk to it in 2-3 minutes of the house SWEEEEEET
Very Happy!

Good thing you didn't get busted for fishing after the season closed. |

Hi BT!
Yeah! Your right! But who would have thought there were Brookies in there!
This is just a swamp run-off stream.
Guess where I'll be come Opening Day
While everyone is trying to catch stockies...... I'll be after wild natives
Just want a couple of nice size ones for dinner.
I know they have to be bright orange inside
THE BEST! ....... YUMMY!

Nice job seadog!! I'm actually gonna go hit the thompson dam tomorrow from shore seems how the boat launch area is still frozen. Theres a spot thats open where its about 13-15 ft deep, its pretty well the deepest hole in the lake and is a perfect spot for this time of the year when you cant get the boat out there. |

Oh ya the wild fish are always bright pink. In seasons woods theres a bunch of brookies that live in that stream that runs through there. |

Hi fishinschmoe!
Yeah! Grew up as a child (6-7) next to a neighbor who had a Gordie named Willie.
Got imprinted with the breed early.
Wille would come to our back door and scratch at it to get me to come out and play with him. Great Dog.
I've had 3 of my own since him.
"Sinbad"
"Decature"
and now "MacDonough"
The last 2 named after captains of "Old Ironsides aka USS Constitution"
All Great Dogs and fishing buddies

Never owned a Gordon, but definitely one of my favorite breeds
Had an English Setter years back, have a lab, and a beagle currently, and that is more than enough for 1 house.
Gotta run, need to clean the garage, so I can get the fishing stuff reorganized before it gets too dark. |
