Went to lower bolton today ,all the way on the other side from boat launch, did real well with flags all day 3 good size pickeral 2 to 3 pounders and perch and bass ,ran out of 2 dozen shiners fast but found a guy off rte44 selling shiners
But the real reason for this post is .....SOFT SPOTS...I was a hr into fishing when i was just checkin bait and scoopin slush when i walked across a slushy spot and went down ...thank god my knees hit the opposeing side and had enough time to barrel roll ....you want to talk about making your @#$hole pucker,,,took it real easy the rest of the time has i saw flags...what was crazy is i checked the whole way ice was about 8 to 9 inches..that one spot was 1ft by 2ft hole covered by slush and snow...whole lake was frozen except by the spillway but i did notice more spots like the one i was in and I stayed clear...

YIKES!
Good to hear you are still here, and posting with nothing more than some wet feet.
Youre a big boy, so I wont get into the whole spud bar and ice pik routine.
I hope everyone reads your post, and if they venture out across the ice...they do so with extreme caution. |

I had a similar day on the ice at the lake I live on on Saturday 2-20 the 6" holes that I had drilled the prior Saturday got covered by snow and with the warmer weather had stayed covered by snow but grew @ 3 times their size. There was about 2" of crusty frozen slush then a 1" layer of water and then about 4-6" of black ice. I was careful to go around these snow covered holes but as the day grew warmer everything on the ice looked like the same ole slushy mess and while running for a flag my nephew went down to his mid thigh!!! As I realized he was ok and he needed no help getting out on his own we laughed about it but I also fell in an old hole but escaped without a wet foot!! I decided to stay off the ice til next season especially after all this rain and heat!!! Though this ice I fished at Lake Garda usually runs thinner than the surrounding lakes and ponds it holds some nice bass and gives my son a chance to learn how to set everything up by himself and reap the rewards of Hard Water Fishing!!! Gladd to hear everyone is ok and...

My buddy fell in 3x at Bantam yesterday. Ice was 12 inches but 1 wrong step and you fall in. I coulda fell in 4 times but luckly my big feet saved me just in time. My toes would go under and I was able to push myself forward off of my heel. It was a scary day out there but landed 2 pike and 2 pickerel and all were over 22 inches. There are mines everywhere out on Bantam |

Yeah BG I read your post the other day about heading out to Bantam and I almost ventured out Friday because I had the week off but after last weekend I was a bit "SCARED" of going out especially alone!!! Sounds like you did well. I'm hoping for some warm days up North so I can hit up the Salmon River in Pulaski next weekend You stay here and hold down the ice _________________ Its a whole lot more than just being "LUCKY" |
