based on the weather forecast, the NW corner of the state is being spared the soaking rain. that we are getting down here in Plantsville.
you may be good to go up there. Especially considering there are no "major" feeders into the Twins, so you shouldnt have too much water rushing in to that place.
IF you DO go, Tread lightly and Safely... as a little water can go a long way on ice.
here is one last tip on East Twin, (and I don't fish there much, so take it with a grain of salt).
Rather than walk 3/4 the way across the lake to the 100 foot hole, draw a line between the nice boat house below the pay-launch, and the tip of the island. Go about 2/3 across. You wont be very deep there. And set up.
We've been there, all by ourselves, with the deep hole (100 yards away)totally crowded, and we pulled nice trout thru. |

Hi, fishinschmoe
I am very new to ice fishing, I know you said the ice should still be safe at East twin for Saturday, but Here in Farmington we had some soaking rain today, I know that is not good for the ice, and I know that Salisbury had rain too. with a lot of snow already on the ice, all the rain on the ice and more snow coming tonight through Saturday will the ice still be safe?? anyone who knows what the conditions are or possible will be at East Twin please let me know, because it is a hour and 20min ride for me and i really don't want to get there and find the ice is unsafe.
Thanks |

thats a gamble. big time. there is alot of ice out there... but alot of rain makes that ice "squishy" in some spots, and running water, as well as standing water on ice makes an "ice sandwich" and eats the ice twice as fast as a warm dry day.
Im super cautious. You won't catch me walkin boards to get onto ice. (I used to, when I was young and foolish).
Id make a few calls, maybe to that marina right there...in case they work there this time of year, and ask them what it looks like out there..
Farmington to Twin is an hour's ride... would hate to have to drive that far to fall in, when you can do that right there at Batterson Park.
on the flip side, there is(was) alot of ice coming in to this week... and I may just be a wuss. |

HI, fishinschmoe
I just wanted to thank you for giving me the tips on where the trrout are at East Twin. we went out today at at about 9:00 and found that the ice was more than safe. there was some slush on top about 3-4 inches, but there also was 12in of solid black ice underneath, and there were no problems at the edges, when we got there, there was 3 quads 1 snowmobile, and then we knew we were going to be fine. we went out at the end of the island 2/3 of the way out, and we caught 6 short browns. 2 jigging and 4 on the traps. no keepers, but for me a great day. thanks for the information on the location.
Thanks

I know it closes. BHF indicated he was from Farmington... I was merely telling him that he didnt have to drive an hour to fall thru slushy ice.
Good Goin on the trout !! Abit bigger would have been agreat way to close down the ice fishin season, but cool, none the less.
Maybe I'll see ya on the water in afew weeks. |
