| idk y but i've been going to this local lake where in the summer its great. im just not getting a bite. i've tried a ton of different methods and idk whats goin on. considering this is my first time ice fishing, i must be doin something wrong. ANY IDEAS? |

Have you covered the entire map?
Have you looked at maps of the lake (depths vegetation?)
Are you using tip ups (traps)?
What lures are you using?
What type of fish are you fishing for?
Are you tiping your lure with bait?

| yes i have looked at maps of the lake and have been using night crawlers minows and meelworms. im fishing for crappie and perch. i've tried all over the lake and nothing seems to work |

I dont think there is an exact science to fishing so....
Try bringing a friend
I caught nothing all today
friend A maybe caught 4 fish total at max
friend B caught over 7
we had fished near each other and swapped holes and yet friend B did much better
we all were using the same lure baited with spikes (maggots)
I have noticed that on one lake I was catching (for the most part not all) bigger perch then I ever had on shore.
While on another lake (today) where I have caught jumbo perch, they only caught bait fish size perch. The pickerel were half the size if not smaller then we would catch in the open water.
Maybe where you fish most of the fish are very inactive or too small to eat what you are using...
Have you tried a swedish pimple?

Do you have your bait on a hook?? do your tip ups have Flags???
Just Kidding!!
Seems odd that you are striking out, especially when it comes to perch.
if you get back out, despite the weather this week, find a deeper hole, and get your bait as close to the bottom, or weed top as possible. (within 6 inches).
If that doesn't work... call me. I will buy your stuff. LOL...
by the same token, its true. bring some friends along. its amazing how 1 hole will bring in 12 fish, and the hole 10 feet away won't bring in 1. |
