Fished a local res today without an auger. I seen some guys out there yesterday so I figured I could just pop a few holes.
I got there around 11:30 and seen some cracked holes frozen over..
Cracked holes meaning not augered holes but cracks leading to what seems like a hole.
I cautiously broke open and jigged about 4 holes before catching a pickerel on a swedish pimple baited with a piece of minnow. I had found the minnow one the ice...
A couple more holes pop and another pickerel on the same thing as the last one.
The other guys further out had left so I jigged my way toward where they fished to see if I could find any live / dead minnows.
1 of the first minnows i found was still alive, i dont know how but it was.
So I said to my self why not take one of my tip ups out and put this minnow in the same hole I caught one of my other pickerel.
Now to find some more minnows.
After jigging about 6 holes and finding 8 - 10 minnows and not seeing the flag go up, I ventured back to get ready to leave.
I start pulling the tip up out of the water and get ready to real and there was a lot of tension. To my surprise another pickerel.
The tip up had sat in the hole for ½ an hour or more.

WOW that is a HEAVY HOOK you got there !!!!
Good times!! sometimes "scrounge" fishin is fun. I do it for "survival practice" every now and then... |
