Just got back from bass pro, picked up a few last things to get me ready for the new season. I tried ice fishing,it's somthing to do in the winter but i'm ready for spring, bring on the warmth and melt that ice! If you see an older white nitro bass boat out on a half thawed lake,it's just me being to impatient.( : ( : ( :

Well, it depends on the body of water and the weather but id say usually from late may threw middle of june. In the bigger bodies of water the spawn will usually last longer because of the varying water temps though out the lake. Usually when the water hits 60 the females will start getting on beds and if the water continues to warm they will start laying eggs when water temp is around 65-68.
See what some of the other guys are saying seems how I'm somewhat new to bass fishing but i think my info is pretty accurate. Good luck!!!

PS. If you have the time, start fishing nice and early in the season, some of my best bass have come early in the spring. Good luck!!!

hey Tmac, wheres a good place to launch on the ct river. I've never fished it, id assume that most of the bass catching action will be in coves or calm pools out of the current, seems how the waters so cold right now. Is this true?

The CT river is Maddening to fish. Get some maps, do some homework, and plan to hit it at least 10 times, on different tides, different flows, and different sun-cloud mix days.

Dont get me wrong... Its one of my favorite waters to fish.

You will hit the river one day, and smoke the smallies on a crank bait.
Hit it again the next day, and wont even catch a cold.

As far as launches, there is one in RockyHill on Rt 160 that is pretty decent too. Im hoping to dunk a boat in there this weekend.

I second what schmoe said. Get a map of the river, any tackle shop worth its weight in salt will have them. Some of the best fishing and some of the worst fishing i have had in my lifetime has been on the river. I like fishing the back water coves mostly.

The river can be frustrating at first. I can't tell you how many times I have skunked but once I starting catching I fell in love with it. I have days where I have 30 fish in a couple of hours. Put your time in and you will get good results. The striper run is coming, defintiely try to get out there when they are running. 9" Houdini shads are deadly for river stripers.

OH JEEZ.
Houdini Shad. Did they pay you to write that?? Laughing
Go to Cabelas and buy a few of their house brand "flat tire" shads. Stripers cant tell the difference!! I have more wasted money on every Houdini shad color... and don't think Ive ever turned a striper on one.
Bluefish smack em, and rip em up tho. Rolling Eyes

dont forget about the pike in the river. that pic of me (to the left) is from the CT river. there are some decent fish in there... and notice NO LEAVES in the back ground... twas this time o year.

fishin the back waters is cool for large mouths, and pike, and you wil find me in there, flipping, casting, and what not, but the main river holds some of the nicest smallies Ive ever caught... some over 4 pounds. that is where you can find me, standing on the trolling motor pedal. . . and probably cursing like a drunk sailor.
