I have went twice for walleye at night at gardner and only got two pickerel! anyone having any luck out there/

Use to live in East Hampton and went to Gardners quite often.

Yes! Fish the deep hole and sides next to the island -> That's where they'll be till ice out -> Then you can catch them right off the boat ramp from shore when they come in to feed early morning and at dusk Exclamation

Caught my walleye at Gardner

Right in back of Minnie Island where it goes from 5 ft to 30 feet in about 10 yards. [/img]

Hows the ice on gardner? And is there any bait for walleye that would be better in this particular lake or just the general, i might ttry to plan a trip for tomorrow night.

Ya go big or go home. I do not ice fish with bait any smaller than 4 inches or size large shiner for all species of fish.

Ya know, the whole "bigger bait bigger fish" theory has me in a pickle.

I spend the extra bucks on the bigger shiners like the rest of monster seekers, and still manage to catch perch and pickerel that can barely get the shank of the hook in their mouths. letalone the whole shiner,

Then Ive caught big fish on the dink shiner that I happened to scoop and drop.

I get the impression that if you put a bait in front of a very cold lethargic fish, and he happens to be in the mood to eat, the fish will eat your bait. Granted... Im not talking about spikes or pinheads, but shiners in general.

Alas, next weekend, I will be buying the bigguns that sometimes tip a flag all by themselves in search of a wall hanger thru the ice, and will surely bring home some 10" perch for my efforts.

wow nice fish, that eye has a heck of a tail on it, just my opionion but that doesnt look like gardner r u on the backside looking away from campground toward cove? it just doesnt look right, but i could be wrong. that looks like the cabin on your left shoulder but the far shoreline doesnt line up with what i know. like i said just my opionion

Hi!

He is on Gardner!
Photo was taken looking south.
That's the island to the right side of the picture with the rock spit sticking out to the east.
He's standing north of the island blocking the view of the narrow channel to the east of the island. Also more to the east side of the deep hole.
That big red 2 story building to the left side of the picture is the local yacht club.

thanks, glad nobody took it the wrong way, i too spend nites on the lake not as often as i would like because i like being married though its a tough choice trust me lol. i usually fish the other side,boat launch, cove, shore etc with decent success always at nite sometimes the island but its been crowded this year and i like trying new areas. i prob. wouldnt reconize anything during dayligt hrs anyway thnks an good luck.
