From what I understand the state did not give the town the launch, it was the town's all along. The town and the lake association decided not to re-new the lease to the DEP so now only lake association members are allowed to use the launch site. You can still fish Bantam but you have to launch from a private launch now which charges you a fee and it is not the greatest ramp for the bigger boats.

Sniper, I'm sure there are plenty of spots to pull off the road and drop your canoe in. Just not sure where you can park because I am not too familiar with the streets next to Bantam.

Not true. Open to the public. Probably one of the best pike waters in the state!

Rick, what I meant by too big is the 20-21 foot fiberglass jobs with the big 200-225 hp motors. I think your Tracker 17 footer would be alright. The launch I heard was kind of narrow that is why guys with the fiberglass boats do not want to risk scratching their boats. Rather than launching off of East Shore Drive which is now closed to the public the other launch is off of Bantam Lake Road which is on the other side of the lake to the recently closed public launch.

Rick,
I have a 17'6" Stratos that I launch at the state ramp. It's not the best or the easiest. It is narrow and shallow. Definately can't power load. Cold and shallow water could be a real pain. Typical nasty stuff, pot holes, stumps and pretty steep. I wouldnt attempt without a four wheel or all wheel drive. I think it's five bucks to launch and park.
I got to be freindly with the guy in the store, I even launched at night, returned the next morning to pay him..pretty cool. I noticed the fishing has been better since they closed the town/state ramp. Less pressure I guess. Caught last years biggest fish there.

You could also park up in the Northbay well never mind. I fish with a 10ft tin can so usually I park up in the Northbay and pick up the trailer and boat swig it over the rocks and then launch from there. Its a challenge to do by myself but with two people it takes about 1 minute. I've noticed that a lot of bigger pike have been caught thru the ice there this year compared to years past. The public ramp closure could be for the good fishing wise.

Terminator, that is so true but what good is it to have a great fishery if you can't even access it. Since I won't risk launching my big Skeeter there now, I will definitely be hitting that place more often with my 12 foot tin or my new Hobie I just picked up. Like you I will be parking on the side of the road and launching from there. The Lake Association can kiss my a$$! Very Happy

Rick,
The Store/Launch is right across from the campground (Point Folly)

Campground Store opens from early May until mid_October
and is located at 123 North Shore Road in Litchfield

Hope this helps
