Hey guys, I was planning on heading over to Squantz pond thursday. Its a good 45-60 minutes from my house So I was hoping for a decent Ice report before I drive there. Also, I'm not looking for anyone's secret spot but I have never fished there so if you could point me in a decent direction for some walleyes or at least a general depth that would be great. Thanks a lot

Plenty of ice on Squantz, 12+.

No "Eyes" in Squantz, thats just a rumor Laughing

Seriously, head over to the left side and start in 20' of water.

You do know that they hit better at night right?

For walleyes, get as deep as you can, and check a topo map, looking for channels, and long steep drop offs.

IF you do the dark thing, (and its a spooky pain in the ass to do it), you can set up shallower, as they do move up to the flats at dusk .

Get out there before we get that snow on Wed... they are talking as much as 10 inches. that will put a kabosh on ice fishin for a while.

Thanks for the tips. Yeah I know about the whole night gig, but it dosen't work out for me time wise. I'll most likely end up staying till dark but not much after that. I plan to move a little shallower as the sun goes down. Once again thanks

time is the least of your worries after dark... Ive heard stories about setting up alarms, attaching bells, or rigging wires, and what not, but after the sun is long gone, I find Im "marching the line" checking for flags.
Perhaps a full moon might help, but dark is for the birds... plus when all the noises of the days subside, and its dead quiet out there, and the ice starts making its noise, its creepy!!

Have a good time out there man. I know already that this weekend isn't gonna happen.

lol, I hear you. I used to do a lot of pond skating and a lot of the places I skated on, skating was prohibitted, so I use to go at night. I played hockey since I was 3 and I use to do laps on different lakes to build endurance, the way a runner would use the track. The ice use to make horrifying sounds at night, definitely took a lot of getting used to and a lot of confidence in the ice thickness.

Yeah, I have a hard enough time surfcasting at night with two poles nevermind 5 tip-ups. I'm sure I'd have half the yotes in the state out there with the amount of food I bring lol. thanks again guys

Besides Ice fishin, I LOVE fishing at nite. Especially for Largemouth or Stripers on Reefs...

Something about hearing a splooosh that sounds like you are dropping babies, or having a drag start screemin, with nothing but the abyss to look into is a rush.

of course, lobster pots, and the CT river, which is Freekin BLACK below essex at nite, with a twisted narrow channel, makes for a not so fun run to the reefs.

I hate it when work gets in the way of my fishing. Good Luck tomorrow, hope the wind calms down for you.
