well i just got off the ice and wanted to post my results from todays affair. i set out this morning at 6:30am w/ my two brothers for my visiting brothers last dayof action be4 he heads back to florida.. as we got to the ice another gentlemen was set up already. he ewas real close to the spot we like to cover but not on the correct spot as we approached. now we get to our spot and we began to set up as a three man team. cut one hole, two hole, three holes bang a flag. i start to cut hole four and bang flag up,finish four. results two bass one 15in and i got a 17in.
after that quick burst of flags in 5 min i was able to go off and punch out the remaining 8 holes without interference. we had all 12 traps in by 7:15am and by 8:30am we had caught 12 fish and six were bass the largest at 18.5in and weighed 3.4lbs. the remining fish were a mix of pickerel and perch. for the days total and this is no bull..12 traps we had 44flags.. 29 fish on the ice...11bass ranging from 10in to 18.5in.....13pickerl with the bigest at 18in and five small perch.....all fish were set free except for one perch who had a rather gangly demise....
now the funny thing from our side of the fishing day was when we first got on the ice and the thought of the other guy saying how the hell are these guys reeling in these fish as i sit here and watch them do it.. i was here first it should be me catching them...NOT it was us seting up 25ft away from him in our usual spot catching all the fish....PRICELESS MOMEMT IN OUR EYES..
P.S. the ice was 7 to 8 inches thick everywhere we tried and we fished 1 to 3 feet below the ice. |

I love it when I get a day like that...Nothing is better than having to say to the guy with the least fish " Hey man ...you gotta run down to the bait shop for a few more dozen!!!" Sounds like you're day was way better than mine.
I hit MT Tom for 4 hours today and had 3 flags. Landed 2 brownies @ 14" I actually fell asleep and woke up to trout on 2 guys out there landed a nice Salmon about 4 lbs or so! _________________ Its a whole lot more than just being "LUCKY" |

this pond where i am fishing 1 to 3 ft below the ice is only 5ft deep at its max depth and those spots are far and few between. so if you figure the ice is a foot thick it doesnt leave much room to fish. the fish that are there basically run rite into the bait no matter where i hang em. the pond is filled with all sorts of weed so most fish come thru the hole with some kind of weed outfit all over em. i usually fish two feet up from the bottom and 1 to 5 feet below the ice on most ponds. it obviously depends on species of fish i am after...its not uncommon for my brother and i to get 25 or so flags each time out on this pond. the catch average is almost always 75%. yesterday i had 14 flags and landed 11 fish. my bigest fish was a 17inch bass just under 3lbs.. |

i went back to my local hot spot today with one of my brothers. we set up on a different section of the pond just to see what we could pull out from a non familiar area and this is what we got. we set out at 6:15 am this morning and we were fully set up by 6:45am. the first flag poped up around 7:0am and we steadily got flags thruout the morning. the flags were a little slow compared to the other day when we had 44 of them .we were off the ice by noon with the following results.
11 traps[miscounted then too lazy to setup #12]
14 flags for the 5 hours
9 fish on the ice
1 bass at 14 in
8 pickerel w/ the biggest at 17
i was 5 fish for 7 flags
brother was 4 fish on 7 flags
needless to say we had a nice day in the sun siting by the fire roasting some johnson brats and drinking lots of coffee......
probably gonig to fish for pike at quaddick on tuesday or wednesday before that small storm blows in...
peace out and happy fishing to all of you why i am in daytona at the race. i hope the ice is still safe when i get back..... |
