Jig and Pig was great! It was cold at about 20F with winds at about 10 to 15 NNE, so holes were icing over and beer was freezing in the bottle. Ice was 8 to 10 inches or more. I would guess about 150 people fished.
One fisherman did fall through early out near Squantz point in shallows where there had been cracking due to water level changes, but I heard he changed clothes and was back on the ice shortly.
I caught a 1.8 LB Brown jigging right off the beach, and while it was not close to the weight of the leader, I plan to enjoy trout dinner during the Super Bowl. I left at 1:15 before the 2:30 ending time and the leaders at that time were 5.35 LB Brown, 4.31 LB Large Mouth, and a Perch at 1.14 LB. In general it seemed a lot of fish were caught.
Food was even better than previous years if that is possible. |
