Got started late this morning headed out to North end of West Hill. 3 other guys fishing near the boat launch not doing so well. I chose a spot I thought would produce some pickerel but hoping for trout too so I'd have some action. I started setting up around 10:30 am and before I could get my 4th tip up rigged I caught a nice fat 18" pickerel. Then just after setting my last tip up I caught a small rock bass. After about an hour lull it was flag after flag with not much time for rest. At one point I had 3 flags Smile I landed a total of 6 pickerel 1 rock bass and 1 brown trout and I wrapped things up at 4pm as the action cooled down. A good day of pickerel still beats getting skunked! There was 10" inches of ice with 2" of fresh snow on top. Gonna sleep good tonight Very Happy HAPPY FISHING!!!

The pickerel lately have been taking over West Hill. 4 years ago it was rare to catch them now I catch them every time I bass fish that place. Is West Hill locked up through the whole lake or is it just the places out of the wind that have solid ice? I memorized every drop off and change in weeds in that place, and to get to the good spots you need to walk pretty far.

10" at the North end by the launch and about 7-8" at the south end but the whole lake is good ice. There are some sweet drop offs on the North East shoreline dropping out to about 35' in a 15yds or so but I mostly target trout and they tend to roam more than hold on the cliffs Wink

I know them pickerel are surely getting fat on them 60,000 salmon fry they stocked. The funny thing is pickerel taste better on a salmon diet Laughing
